Well, I don’t know about where you are in the world but the weather’s taken a turn for the worse here with the Autumn looking like it’s going to arrive a bit sooner than expected!
Not that I’m complaining. 😉
I love this time of year and the fact that the days are getting cooler and greyer and the nights are drawing in is something that I love – it’s a fantastic excuse to stay indoors and cosy up. I always try and adapt my house for the time of year too so I always look forward to a little bit of a budget interior design makeover at this time of year.
My walls are all neutral colours, mainly white to be honest so a few carefully chosen accessories are all I need to make my home cosy and ready for Autumn. I don’t spend a fortune but I do make a few little tweaks to ‘cosy up’ my house…
Candles and lighting
I could spend hours in the shop smelling candles that are going to fill my house with gorgeous Autumn smells like cinnamon and apple which is the one I have burning on my windowsill right now. I love candles and the glow of candlelight is definitely something I associate with this time of year.
It’s not just candlelight that I love at this time of year though, I love having lamps on rather than the main lights as it feels much cosier. There are some very stylish floor lamps nowadays that provide just enough of a light source to illuminate certain areas of your home creating an ambience and atmosphere that I think is simply unachievable with the main light.
I love a good bunch of flowers that match the time of year so right now I’m loving sunflowers and I associate them with Autumn as they’re usually a popular flower in the shops at this time of year. I also love Gerberas at this time of year as well as I love their bright colours.
Moving more into Winter I’m all about foliage and greenery ready for Christmas. 😉
Throws and blankets
I love big snuggly cosy blankets and have plenty of them in the living room – on the back of the settee, over the armchair and I even have a couple in a basket style coffee table. Just being able to pull one over me when I’m sat watching TV is a perfect cosy thing to do at this time of year – not to mention the fact that snuggling under a blanket saves me having to switch the heating on.
It’s all in the detail
I have a couple of random things that I love that make my house cosy – this is a homemade pom-pom that hangs in my hall and I love the pop of colour it brings to the room. I also have a little pop pom garland that I run up the inside of the bannister which really makes things look cosy.
I’ll be working on my cosy home project over the next couple of week’s so keep an eye on Instagram to see what small changes I make…
