One of the best feelings in the world is that new bed feeling that you get when you get into bed after changing the bedding! Clean, fresh bedding is amazing and worth the faff of changing the bedding but imagine how much better it would be if you freshen up your mattress at the same time as changing the bedding!
I have no idea if this is something that everyone does already when they change their bedding but I mentioned this to one of my friends last week and they’ve never done this so I thought I’d share my tips on how to freshen up your mattress today.
This is something that I do about every second time that I change the bedding although to be fair I could easily do it every time as it’s so quick and easy to do…
I use about half to three-quarters of a cupful of bicarbonate of soda (Asda own brand is the cheapest I’ve found) and add in about 10 drops of peppermint essential oil although the essential oil can be any scent you fancy or if you’d prefer, you can just leave it out entirely.
I sprinkle it onto the bed band then using a microfiber cloth I just give it a gentle rub into the mattress.
(Ignore the fact that my mattress looks a funny colour – it’s actually a mushroom type colour in an odd pattern so the white bicarbonate of soda on it added together with the fact that the light was so bad makes it look grubby – it’s actually quite new so definitely not mucky. Honest!)
Once I’ve rubbed it into the mattress I leave it for at least an hour or so then I come back and give the bed a hoover!
In theory, the bicarbonate of soda soaks up the odours from the mattress as it draws in moisture and dirt so when you hoover it up, it pulls any lingering odours out of the mattress leaving just the scent of the essential oil you used in the mattress.
Then I just put my covers back on as normal and count the minutes until bedtime!
I also freshen up the mattress in between bicarbonate of soda cleans with my homemade Febreze spray!
I know I’ve been saying this for almost as long as I’ve been blogging but I really want to get my bedroom sorted out – it’s the one room that has never had much attention and I hate it. I want to paint the walls white to freshen it up and get rid of the ugly plum coloured ‘feature’ wall that I once thought was a good idea.
I also want to get a larger bed as we currently only have a small double which is 4ft wide and that’s really not large enough for us and two dogs (I know, don’t judge me as I know exactly how bad it is that we let them sleep on the bed). I’ve been looking at Beds from Beds Guru and have seen some that I love but I’m torn between a King Size which is 5ft 6 or a Super King which is 6ft. We were advised when we went bed shopping a while ago that people who buy Super Kings regret it usually as it’s just too big and that’s actually the reason why we didn’t buy one at the time – the salesperson was just too salesy pushing us to a King Size when we thought we wanted the Super King. I’m not going to bother going shopping this time though, I’ll just avoid the salesperson and shop online. Or at least that’s what I’ll do when I decide what I want. 😉
