Great article and so many variants on the spend. I guess one thing no-one said was how much they earn in relation to what they spend. We only have £300 a month left over from all the extortionate bills (rent, water, council tax all really expensive!) so that's all we have for food and other stuff eg trips out with the kids etc. Luckily because we're vegan, veggies, legumes etc don't cost the earth and we make most of our meals at home with basic stuff.

Do you cook your own meals? I love fish, vegetables, fruit and I couldn't spend only that! We are 4!

I've had to reduce my weekly shopping since I became a single mum but we're still eating well as I usually drop Emma off and the search the shops for reduced items and deals. January has worked really well in this way and out food bill reduced dramatically so hoping to be able to keep the trend up the months to come.

I used to be able to manage of £50 a week for us all, but at the moment it is about £80 and that includes packed lunch

most of us are doing home shopping on the weekend day. actually being a busy and tight schedule life we do not have much time to spending for shopping., in that case only weekend day is the right time to do shopping. when we are talking about shopping time it depends on the shopping list.

I tend to spend what I need to spend on food, I don't like to scrimp on food and we do buy a lot of fresh fruit and veg, but we also keep costs down by using all our food (not throwing stuff away) and cooking from scratch a lot.

I completely agree that convenience is sometimes worth paying for – as it's just me and Boo, I can do a weekly shop for as little as £35-£40 but if I've got a lot of freelance projects on then I cook less from scratch and rely more on convenience; like you say it's finding a balance that works for you.

I spend about £150 i could probable spend less if I shopped around but I'm happy with what I spend and the quality of the food that we buy so for now I'll just keep on 😉

I love love love this post! I've just started my own blog to account for my food and household spending as I've lost my way and I have no idea what I'm spending. I don't do a weekly shop but shop when I need to buy food. I find that way I'm actually buying the things I need rather than just throwing things into the trolley out of habit.

I have to say that I've not got a clear idea of how much I spend a week, but that needs to change this year. That said sometimes it's worth paying for quality.

So interesting to see what people spend. I prefer not to scrimp on food, I've seen research that suggests it's a very British thing to do, but I realise how easy it is to spend money you don't need to and that expensive doesn't always = quality. Our local greengrocers is fab and so cheap, I'd got reliant on the supermarket and I can really taste the difference.

It is often the balance between how much time you have to cook and convenience isn't it ? I found sticking to Aldi definitely cut my bills as I bought more fresh as there was less temptation !

We tend to shop online for food because I'd rather sit at home with a cup of tea than go to a supermarket but when I go in one I am a hawk for the reduced stickers too!

Really enjoyed reading this – it's so interesting to see how other people spend and what their priorities are when it comes to food and buying groceries. We currently spend around £50 a month for two us, lots of yellow stickers and getting food for free from apps. I am lucky enough at the moment that I have the time to do this. Things will definitely change when we start a family!

I never used to give it as much thought as I do now I live so close to a Sainsburys and Co-Op. Now it's almost become a hobby to get something that's been reduced. Some weeks I can feed us both for less than £15!
