Today in the Frugal household, we have one ill (and whingey) five year old, one very energetic eight year old, one very tired mummy and one absent daddy.
Trying to find something to keep us all occupied and happy was a bit of a challenge this morning but we managed a happy hour or so making some homemade books. All you need for this is a sheet of A4 paper, some colouring pens and a pair of scissors so it was ideal for us today as we couldn’t be bothered with any faffing about.
We followed the instructions in the video below to make the book – it literally takes a minute to do and is really simple. I found it easier to pause the video after each fold for the first book but after that I didn’t even need to refer to it.
We had loads of fun making our books and ended up making a springtime book, all about the animals and flowers that make an appearance at Springtime:

We made a Dinosaur book, all about, erm dinosaurs:
And finally, we made a book about all of the things we’d like to do over the half term holidays:
So, we’ve managed to fill a whole hour up now, only another six more to go till bedtime….

Such a great activity for kids. I'm sure they will love this and they will enjoy their time doing this.
What a simple but brilliant idea! Loved your classic remark: "So, we’ve managed to fill a whole hour up now, only another six more to go till bedtime…."
My little guys love to draw, but always have all these random pieces of paper that I'm supposed to keep track of from their finished works. Doing these mini booklets is going to be fun for them and easier on me (I hope) keeping track of all their masterpieces.
Loved discovering this page today. That's Tilly, my daughter, making the book in the video, when she was quite a bit younger. We've had so much fun with these little books over the years, and the ones your children have made are just so cute!
Aaaw that\’s so cool, thank you very much for the inspiration, We make these all the time and have so much fun with them x x
The little ones love to make their own books and things like this. It's just a case of stopping them drawing on the couch that can be quite tasking.
My son draws his own super hero comic strip in the form of a little booklet. It takes him hours!
Oh bless him x
That's a really good idea. I have some time off with Chick this week as it's half term and no money to do anything with so we'll give these a go!!! x
I know how you feel about having no money – we'll be doing lots of free stuff this week 😉
Oh my what a fab activity – the booklet is too cute and love how you can spend all afternoon thinking about Spring (and Dinosaurs!) 🙂
It kept them quiet for ages – that's got to be a good thing 😉
