When it comes to living in a frugal way, you can do more when you have more. So for many people, saving money, or being savvier with money, can help when you have an extra income.
Even a small amount can make a big difference each month and help you get to where you need to be; all while living frugally, of course. So with that in mind, here are some of the things that you could be doing as a hobby, that can generate an income. Some will only generate an income over time, so don’t expect anything to be a super quick fix. But if you want to make some money on the side, doing something that you enjoy, then this can be a good idea.
It is quite staggering just how many people talk about how they started out blogging as a hobby, and then it grew and grew and now they are making money from it. If you love to write, love to share, and want a slice of this online world, then blogging is something that can be pretty inexpensive to get started in too. You can get a website and domain quite cheaply, and then you can just go from there. You can generate an income through affiliate posts, link-building and SEO, sponsored content, social media posts, paid reviews, and so on; there are plenty of options.
If you have got a keen eye for photography, with an Instagram feed to die for, then photography is obviously something that you really enjoy. And as well as possibly getting paid Instagram posts if you have built up a bit of a following, you could also make money from taking photos as a hobby. It could be anything from taking portraits or headshots of people, to taking landscape photos, newborn photos, or wedding photos. There are plenty of options for you, so it is definitely something to think about. Just make sure you look how to watermark photos as it is a must for any photographer, to stop people stealing your images or printing them without your permission.
Similar to blogging, but where you are given what to write about and don’t have to share too much of yourself, you could easily make some money writing online. You could sign up with an agency, and get regular work, or just use sites like Fiverr to pitch for work as and when it comes up. With SEO and link building being such a big thing online, there are networks that will want to use copywriters to place content on sites, as well as writing for online articles. On a similar note, things like editing online copy could be something to get into as well. If you enjoy this kind of thing, then it could definitely be worth it for you.
You might not be someone that classes managing money as a hobby, but in fact, it can be something that people really enjoy. If you like the idea of shifting money around your accounts, swapping accounts, and getting reward credit cards, for the rewards, then it can actually be a bit like a part-time job. You need to keep your finger on the pulse of what is going on and what the best deals are, but it can be fun to do if you enjoy it and find this kind of thing interesting. Saving money and moving money around to make sure that you are getting the best rates can definitely be a hobby that pays!
Crafts or Carpentry
If you are someone that likes to get involved with crafts or is quite handy making things, then it can be a really great hobby that can help to pay the bills. Many people are short on time, and will pay for things to be made for them. It could be things like homemade cards, sewing or knitting items, or even making things like chairs or tables. It can be a labour of love with some of these things, as they can take a while to make. But if you can make some money at the end of it, and you enjoy the process, then why not give it a go?
This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to hobbies and making money, as there are plenty of options. Basically, if you enjoy it and someone would pay for it or pay for your skills or knowledge, then you’ll be more than likely to be able to make some money out of it.
