It’s Gas Safety Week this week so I’ve teamed up with the team over at energy company SSE to share 5 quick and easy tips to help you and your family stay safe at home all year round.
Do you know how often your boiler should be serviced?
I have mine done twice a year now after the dramas we’ve had over the years – waking up to no heating on Christmas morning a few years ago was not my ideal Christmas Day!
Do you know the 6 signs of Carbon Monoxide poisoning?
I feel like putting my hand in the air and shouting ‘Me, Me, Me’ like you did at school when you knew the answer to a question. 😉 I learned them after watching a really sad story on the local news just after we bought our first home.
When did you last test your Carbon Monoxide alarm?
I know I sound like a teacher’s pet here but I check mine monthly at least.
Never use an engineer who isn’t on the Gas Safety Register!
I’m starting to sound smug now aren’t I? I have a great guy who we’ve stuck with since he came out to us from two towns over one Friday night when we had no heating and he’s definitely registered as he made a point to show us his credentials. He’s not the cheapest but I can’t forget the relief when he came straight out when no-one else would and didn’t charge a huge call out fee.
Get the number to call if you smell gas!
I know, I’m getting annoying but I have the number I would need to call as a sticker on my boiler thanks to my lovely boiler man! Do you know what number you would need to call?
So, these are the seven things you need to know and do in order to be gas aware and keep your family as safe as you can – you can find out more information on each point over on the SSE website. Just in case you didn’t know. SSE is one of the UK’s leading energy companies, supplying energy, broadband and boiler care to around 8 million customers throughout Great Britain and Ireland.
