Every week I look forward to the weekend as its the only 2 days of the week that we are all at home together and we always try to do something that we know that the kids will enjoy.
As it was so nice yesterday we decided to have a trip to the beach. We live about five minutes away from the beac but we don’t go too often as Mr Frugal hates the beach – he hates the sand in his feet and he hates the sea as he says you don’t know whats in it. But the weather was so nice that we decided to take the kids down and let them have a paddle.
But…. Disaster struck when Master Frugal fell over in the sea and got soaked and cried for ages that I hadn’t took a change of clothes with us, Miss Frugal sliced her foot on a shell and cried for about half an hour as I didn’t have a plaster with me…. Mr Frugal whinged like a big kid that he hated the sand in his feet and I was trying to keep everyone happy but ended up just getting really frustrated with it all and we ended up coming home. I think the kids were tired as they have had their first week back at school and haven’t got back into their night time routine yet but whatever it was – it was a nightmare.
Because yesterdays trip didn’t go according to plan, we decided to make today a Frumpy Sunday. Don’t ask where we got the name from but when we have a Frumpy day in our house it means that no-one is allowed to whinge or cry or shout or argue.
So today we have had a lovely day (Frumpy days really do work)…. We wanted to go to a car boot sale this morning but we were so late after our big frumpy family breakfast that everyone was packing up when we got there. We managed to get 8 action man accessories for a pound though at one stall that was a bit slow in packing away so Master Frugal was rather impressed. Then we popped into Whitby for a few hours and were planning on going on one of the boat rides there but it was so cold and windy that we came home instead. When we got home I sorted out the school uniforms for tomorrow and the packed lunch boxes are ready so Monday morning should go smoothly!
Tea was nothing exciting, just chicken and chips but for pudding I made the easiest fruit cobbler you have ever seen.
Frumpy Fruit Cobbler
All you need is 1 cup of Sugar, 1 cup of plain flour, 1 cup of milk, 1/4 teaspoon baking powder and 2 cups of fruit (any fruit – frozen, fresh or tinned).
Its so easy to make, just mix the sugar, milk, flour and baking powder together in a bowl. It doesn’t really matter if you use the American cup measurement, you can just use a normal coffee cup. The main thing is that the quantities are equal.

Next, add your fruit. You need to use quite a large dish for this, mine is about 8 inches square. Once you have greased your dish, layer your chosed fruit in the bottom of it. Today I used a tin of peaches that I have had in the cupboard for about a year. I have used frozen forest fruits mix before as well and I am sure that you can use just about any fruit.
Pour your mixture over the fruit and bake in the oven at about 180 degrees for about 35 – 40 minutes.
You can tell when it’s cooked when it is all nice and golden brown (and when the oven time goes off lol….
Et Voila! Peach cobbler and custard.
