Every week I share five frugal things that I’ve done during the previous week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life.
Hey! 👐
1) Last year, I bought a skirt for Miss Frugal’s graduation from M&S which is one of my favourite things to wear – it has a shirred waistband which means it’s super stretchy and super comfortable. It’s a cream and bright pink material and it literally screams Summer when I wear it – honestly I always get compliments when I wear it.
It’s in the wash at the moment as I wore it to work last week so I tried to Google a photo to share with you and I found this:
Apparently it was the skirt of the Summer last year! It wasn’t cheap but I bought it the night before her graduation when I decided that I hated the dress that I had originally bought for it so I was desperate and I did love it – I don’t generally pay £40 for a skirt though. 😁
It’s such a comfortable skirt so imagine how excited I was to find the exact same skirt in a charity shop in plain black which makes it even more wearable than this one. It still had the tags on showing the full price but I paid £5.50 for it which I was over the moon with.
I’ve actually been looking in M&S for another version of this skirt as I know they very often just update a popular style for the next season but I’ve only ever seen it in bright colours and it was a more muted colour that I was after so black could not have been more perfect more me.
It was even in their ‘short’ length which is great for me!
2) Can you believe it’s June already?
I’m excited that it’s sitting out in the garden season and we have a big table with chairs but I really wanted somewhere comfortable to sit and chill so we’ve been looking for a nice garden settee set but we didn’t want to pay a fortune as I actually don’t know how much it will be used in reality – as much as I like the idea of it.
So this week, Master Frugal messaged me to say that he’d just mowed his lawn (in my old house) and he was going to get rid of our old garden furniture which has been pretty much unused since I moved out. The cushions were thrown away long ago as they were beyond saving but the settee itself has just been left and aside from the fact that it’s filthy, it’s still in good condition.
This is the photo that he sent me:
This week, it’s had a good pressure wash to clean it up so it’s now in place in our garden. I’m not going to show you it yet though as I want to share what it looks like when it’s done as I want to find some cushions to make it nice and comfortable as well as pretty.
Watch this space!
(also, see how I’ve massively reduced mosquito bites this last year or so – I wouldn’t have sat out in the garden so comfortably a few years as I react so badly when I get bitten)
3) I spent a bit of time last Sunday sorting out my loyalty cards on my phone as a couple of times lately, I’ve missed out on points or discounts as I couldn’t log into an app quickly enough when I needed to – I was sorted with them all but I think getting a new phone messed with some of my apps.
I now have them all neatly back in a folder on my phone and I’m logged into all of them.
I’m feel much more organised now and can continue to build up points and cash, save some money and get free things just by presenting my card. None of them build up quickly but I might as well use them and get rewards where I can. 😁
4) When I popped to the shop on Sunday, there was some reduced price oranges and some limes so I bought them both and then chopped them up into wedges and then popped them in the freezer ready to take out a handful when I need it.
And I do need them, probably more through the Summer than at any other time of the year as I make orange and mint water loads. Having wedges of orange in the freezer means that I have some in when I need it (so avoids a trip to the shop) and that I avoid the mess of chopping oranges every day.
The limes mean that I always have limes in for my favourite side dish – roasted chilli and lime tomatoes:
5) I spent a bit of time on Swagbucks this week which I’ve not really done in a while – even just half an hour has made a difference to my totals on there and I expect to see some more pushing up my total after this week. I really need to remember to pop on every couple of weeks.
I’ve got enough now for a £25 Amazon gift card but I’m hoping to get to £50 by the time I’m Christmas shopping.
You can find out more about how to use Swagbucks here or you can just go straight to sign up yourself with a cheeky bonus of 300 swagbucks for each of us if you sign up using this link.
You can earn swagbucks in all sorts of different ways but one example is that you can earn 250 swagbucks just by downloading TikTok! Honestly, the Swagbucks add up super quickly and if you do what I do and just leave them there all year then by the time it comes to Christmas shopping, I have enough to buy an Xbox game – which is always a relief as there’s always one on the kids Christmas list and they’re not cheap!
It’s paid for Fifa for the last 10 years I reckon and I don’t doubt that it will do the same again this year.
Another regular on the Christmas lists in the Yankee Candle Candy Cane candle and last year there was enough to buy that one too. 😁
So, there’s this week’s five frugal things – I hope you’ve all had a happy Frugal week!
