Every week I share five frugal things that I’ve done during the previous week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life.
Hey! 👐
1) I’ve been wanting some hanging baskets to add some colour to the garden but didn’t fancy paying a fortune for them. 😁
I found some empty hanging baskets at the boot sale a couple of weeks ago for a couple of pounds each and after asking some advice from a friend who loves gardening (you know who you are, thank you), she offered to take my empty baskets and plant them up with a few ‘spare’ flowers she had in her garden.
I love them and am so grateful for the free plants.
I did try and give my friend something in exchange from the plants but she wouldn’t take anything as I did her a favour a little while ago so my little hanging baskets cost me £4 for two.
Now I just have to keep them alive and looking as pretty as they do right now!
2) I got a random phone call from Sky earlier in the week where they were trying to sell me broadband for a great price.
I’m really reluctant to sign up to anything over the phone in case it’s a scam but it did get me thinking that it might be time to review how much we pay for our broadband and Sky in general so I told them I’d call back to discuss. I checked the number they gave me on Google and then called them back to see what kind of deal they could do.
The first person I spoke to could upgrade the broadband speeds and reduce our monthly bill by £12 but I asked if there was anyone else I could speak to and let them know that I was willing to cancel if they couldn’t get a better deal for us. The person I was put through to was lovely and shaved £20 off our bill each month which was a win. 😁
3) My car insurance was due to renew this month and although the renewal quote was pretty good, going down from £37 to £31, I still wanted to shop around to see if I could get it cheaper elsewhere. I used a comparison website and managed to find a policy for £22 a month which is another win for the week.
Between the phone call to Sky and the time spent on my laptop comparing prices, it took around 45 minutes to save £35 a month.
4) Look at my strawberries…
I have five strawberry plants and there’s little baby strawberries on them all right now so I’m now excited for when I can pick them. 😁 I also have four tomato plants that are thriving and one chilli plant along with some rocket that seems to be taking over the world.
Far from self sufficient but it’s a start.
5) It’s that time of year again when I have a mint plant on the kitchen windowsill ready to make flavoured water. It’s so refreshing to drink at any time but when the sun is shining, my infused water always tastes amazing.
I’m loving a mint and lime version this week but my bottle isn’t see through at the moment so I’m sharing an old photo of my orange and mint water which I always love.
So, there’s this week’s five frugal things – I hope you’ve all had a happy Frugal week!
