Does anyone else feel like the year’s passing them by? It only seems like yesterday we were unwrapping Christmas presents and eating turkey and now it’s Spring with Easter just round the corner!
As much as I don’t like the fact that the year is going so fact, I do love that it’s Spring though and not because of the cute lambs or the fact that flowers are starting to bloom or even that you can hear the birds singing again outside – it’s actually because I love a good Spring Clean (I know, how sad is that?)
I’m going to try out the Flylady system for my Spring Clean this year and hopefully keep up with it as the year goes on.
If you haven’t heard of Flylady before, it’s a website that helps you follow a housework routine to ensure that all of your jobs are done as efficiently as possible and in rotation.
If you haven’t followed Flylady before you should have a good look around the site to see if it’s for you. I’ll be honest though the site is quite busy and you might get a bit overwhelmed with all of the information at first so I’d recommend looking at the babysteps section first or looking at the Flyzone section if you’re feeling a bit more ambitious and want to jump right in 😉
I used to follow Flylady when I first had Master Frugal and I was off work on maternity leave but when I went back to work full time everything went out of the window a little bit and I did the bare minimum but now I’m back part time, I think it’s time to try it again. But because I consider myself to be a Flylady expert, I’m not necessarily going to follow the site as such, I’m going to make my own list of jobs a la Flylady style and follow that instead (although I do love the detailed cleaning lists here).
My favourite Flylady task is to grab a carrier bag or a bin bag and walk round the house – the idea is to find 27 things to throw in the bag to go in the bin. Whether it’s a piece of rubbish, an empty bottle, anything really. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to find 27 items and how quickly you can do it. I think it’s called a 27 fling boogie or something 😉
I know Pippa is a fellow Flylady but I’m sure there are others out there. Let me know if you’re a Flylady too or if you have any other Spring Cleaning tips….

I followed flylady for about 36 hours before deciding it was totally bonkers. My solution to marry someone who is OCD about cleaning. Virgoan graphic designers fit the bill perfectly.
lol I'm just starting with the baby steps – I have a feeling the full on flylady thing may be too much for me lol. Can I borrow your husband for day?

I start at the busiest downstairs room, take hoover, polish and a bin bag. Empty the bin in that room then and throw any other rubbish into it. take everything that shouldn't be in the room and put it outside the door. Quick hoover, quick polish. put hoover and polish outside room. Then i shut the door (no going back except to return items from other rooms!) and place items from outside door in a basket for upstairs or take to the door of appropriate room. go to next room, repeat till all downstairs rooms are done, then go upstairs and do same, only difference is before I start I get all the clean sheets out of cupboard and put outside each bedroom before I get started. If the room belongs to a person age 10 or older they get to do the work, supervised if needed. If they are younger they get to brandish a duster and decide what is rubbish.

Totally agree about time passing by too quickly -it feels as though I am on fast forward a lot of the time!
I use some of the Flylady tips too-I especially like Crisis Cleaning, the lady speaks sense :D.

I forgot to say… Even when I am ill I still do my very basic routines. Sure sometimes I slip and I might not to the dishes or I might have a hot spot that becomes a hot… something bigger than a spot… but with the routines already being set out I know what to do to get back to being good!
I'm addicted to FlyLady! She changed my life. Literally. I changed from an angry and obsessed perfectionist into a friendly person who truly enjoys life. How about that!?
