A saying that I’ve always tried to teach my children, and indeed one that I try to live by myself is ‘Throw kindness like confetti’ because I really believe that, although one person can’t change the world on their own, they can certainly make a difference to someone’s life, or even just their day. I even made Miss Frugal a little wall art using picmonkey and an Ikea frame a little while ago to remind her of the words.
From a small thing like a compliment to someone about what they’re wearing or how something they did helped you to a larger thing like helping a stranger who is struggling, you can really make their day better without much effort at all.
I always try to go out of my way to help people or to take the time to thank them when they’ve helped me and I especially try to smile at people and pay them compliments because I know myself how it feels when someone does any of these to me.
I don’t try to be kind because I want good things to happen to me or because I expect anything in return, I do it because it makes me feel nice to make other people feel nice. I like to think that by doing as much as I can for other people that I surround myself in a positive energy which I know might sound a bit silly but in reality it gives me a good feeling to be purposefully kind in a world which isn’t always kind. Does that make sense to anyone but me?
So knowing my thoughts on being kind to others, when I got an email asking me to try out a new ‘Karma calculator‘ I was convinced that I’d be off the scale as far as good karma vibes were concerned.
I did the quiz and I was totally honest with my answers although some of the questions really made me think and question myself and what I would do in a certain situation. Would I give back money if I found it on the floor? Would I intervene when it looked like someone was in trouble? I’d like to think I would on both counts but I did find myself justifying the reasons why I wouldn’t in both cases.
At the end of the quiz, which should only take you a minute or so if you don’t over-think like I did, you’ll get your Karma score. Here’s mine:
I’m not going to lie, I was expecting more than ‘Pretty Good’, I was more hoping for an outstanding citizen award but knowing how I answered I guess I’ll accept this! 😉
Why don’t you have a go and see how you do….
