I don’t care how old the kids get, a Christmas movie night is always a must-do in December.
It started when they were younger and every Christmas Eve we would make a big deal of going to the cinema to watch a film. It was a tradition that the kids loved and looked forward to every year as did I but for different reasons – for me, it was a few hours of peace amidst the chaos of Christmas eve. I could relax while the kids were happy and quiet. 🎄
These days, it’s a tradition that we have continued even though they’re all grown up.
It’s a little bit different now as they often have their own plans on Christmas Eve (although they always fit in some time for their Christmas Eve boxes) so we do our Christmas movie night sometime during the week before Christmas when all of our schedules allow us to get together for a night of uninterrupted Christmas!
We always watch the film these days – can you guess what it is?

Last year, I was off work unwell and clearly had too much time on my hands as I made a little ‘Now Showing’ printable using Canva and some matching tickets which I actually made the kids bring along on the night.
This is the ‘Now Showing’ printable…

You can print it out here if you want to make your own Christmas movie night poster.
I printed it out and popped it in a frame that I got from the charity shop in our village for £1. It’s a cheap Ikea frame that I don’t think would have cost much more if you were buying it new to be honest. I ended up writing on the black area with a silver marker that I had but I was initially just going to write on a piece of whit card and stick that on the frame with blu tac so I could update it whenever we washed something new but we only ever watch Elf so it’s good as is for me. 😁
The tickets were a bit of an afterthought but I was clearly bored so I made some to match the poster…

You can print out your own tickets if you want to here.
We’d have fun regardless of whether we had cute printables but I liked the fun of it. We made paper chains and the kids ate pizza and popcorn and it was really the start of Christmas season for me.
I got the idea for a Christmas movie night printable last year when I saw similar selling at a local craft market but I didn’t want to pay £12.99 for it when I knew I could make my own. Mine is nowhere near as fancy as the one I seen but it took 10 minutes on Canva and cost me £1 for a frame so I’m good with that. 😁
If you think you’ve seen this post before, you absolutely might have. This week’s posts are a little bit special because my very lovely daughter, Miss Frugal, has stepped in to help while I’m feeling a bit under the weather. She’s chosen some of her favourite old posts to share with you again – the ones that bring back happy memories of things we’ve made, done or visited together, and I honestly can’t wait to see what she’s picked.
One of the conditions of her takeover was that she was allowed to do it all herself, so I’ve written this little intro for her to add to each post she chooses. I’ll be finding out what she’s re-sharing at the same time as you do. The control freak in me is very uncomfortable with this. 🫢
I’d love you follow me on Twitter and it would be amazing to see you over on my Facebook page and on Instagram. If you’re interested, you can find out more about me here and while I’ve got your attention, if you’re wondering why some of my posts lately are a little bit less frugal then have a read of this post. 😉
