Family Friendly Frugal Meals – Spaghetti Carbonara….
Yesterday I went to the official launch of MFEST which is a family festival taking place this July at Harewood House near Leeds and promises to be a 'Feast of British Music and Food'. I'll let you know more about MFEST in a later post as it really does sound like a great family weekend but for today, I just wanted to share this with you:It's a signed copy of one of Aldo Zilli's cookbooks, signed by the man himself after the surprise cooking masterclass we got from him. He showed us how to make Spaghetti Carbonara without using cream and I can honestly say that it was one of the most … [Read more...]
Family Friendly Frugal Meals – Paella….
I'm not sure if I've said on here before but I started following the Slimming World plan in January although I don't go to the meetings as I can't really justify to myself spending £4 or £5 a week just to be weighed and have someone tell me how good/bad I'm doing (I'm sure it's more than that but you know what I mean). So far I've lost a stone and apart from the occasional blip, I've found it really easy to stick to and I'm learning that the majority of meals that I cook can easily be adapted with a few tweaks here and there.Sunday - HM Paella.Monday - Slow Cooker Chilli with rice or … [Read more...]
Anyone for a Cake Pop….
I've just made some cake pops for Miss Frugal's sleepover tonight and they've gone down so well that I never even got to try one! I'm going to share the recipe with you anyway though but you'll have to trust the word of three nine year old's and a six year old that it was a success ;-)For the cake pop: 1 Sponge cake - I made one using the classic Victoria sponge recipe of 100g sugar, 100g butter, 2 eggs and 100g flour. 80g white chocolate 50g butter Few drops of vanilla extract 100g icing sugarOnce your cake has completely cooled you need to crumble it as finely as you can … [Read more...]
Nutella Pasties….
Today is World Nutella Day 2012 so it would be rude of me not to cook something using Nutella in honour of this special day....I was planning to cook my Nutella Cookies or make some cupcakes with Nutella frosting or even make some lovely Nutella mousse but when I found some ready rolled puff pastry on offer at the shop, I thought I might have a go at making some Nutella Pasties. Sounds weird I know, but actually they were really delicious and we're definitely going to be having them again.... Nutella Pasties Ready made, ready rolled puff pastry (you could make your own if you're feeling … [Read more...]
Not so quick but very yummy Prawn and Pea Risotto….
It's not often Mr Frugal takes much of an interest in cooking or shopping (although he does do all the ironing) but when I picked him up from work a couple of nights ago, he had a big pack of raw King Prawns that he'd seen on the reduced bay on his way through the shop.So instead of the planned ham and mushroom oven baked risotto, I thought I'd try to recreate a prawn and pea risotto that I'd tried a while ago at a friends house and I'm quite pleased with how it turned out, so pleased that I thought I'd share....Prawn and Pea Risotto 700ml vegetable stock 250g Arborio rice 1 chopped … [Read more...]
