Last week, we were invited to a BBQ with the Madhouse clan and after being put in charge of dessert and sides, we made the most amazing Rocky Road that we've ever had. Today, I'm going to share that Rocky Road recipe with you so that you can experience it for yourself. The beauty of this Rocky Road Recipe is that you can change it up to match what you have in the cupboards and what you know your family will enjoy. We went for the usual suspects of biscuits and marshmallows but with the addition of some crushed pistachio nuts because we had some in and I knew the kids would … [Read more...]
Homemade Nandos spicy rice recipe….
This homemade Nandos spicy rice recipe is my secret to recreating a Nandos style fakeaway meal at home for a fraction of the price! With an ever-improving-but-still-fussy-eater like Master Frugal to think about, eating out can sometimes be a bit of a challenge but one place he does love is Nandos. Since the first time we visited as a pre-cinema treat, Nandos has been his favourite place to eat and rather surprisingly, the Nandos spicy rice is his favourite dish on the menu.We enjoy going as a treat but don't go regularly because it can work our quite costly for the four of us … [Read more...]
Chocolate Packed Lunch Cake (between 9p and 11p per slice)….
I've shared a couple of versions of my packed lunch cake over the years but I thought I'd share the cake I've just made with you as it was not only super tasty but at 11p per slice, it's really good value.I first started making this when my two were in junior school as the rules guidelines set by the school at that time were that chocolate and bought cakes were frowned upon but a little piece of homemade cake was acceptable if it was part of a healthy and nutritious packed lunch. I wanted to make something that was a small-ish portion size, that could be cooked in bulk at the … [Read more...]
Milk Jelly like your Nan used to make….
My recipe for milk jelly was one of the first recipes I shared on here way back when I started blogging and back then, it was something I made quite often for the kids. I hadn't made it in ages though - until a couple of weeks ago so I thought I'd update the photos and share it with you all again.I've left the post pretty much as it was back in 2011 when I first shared it but if you scroll down to the bottom you'll find the printable version of the recipe which is much clearer than the original version along with some more recent photos.I've been thinking about investigating how to … [Read more...]
Pink Gin Gummy Bears….
These pink gin gummy bears were absolutely not planned but they went down a storm with my friends so they were a happy 'accident'.Basically, my plan was to have a second go at making some fruit juice gummy bears after I completely messed up the first attempt by calculating my liquid:gelatin ratio. I got as far as getting the orange juice out of the fridge and the gummy bear moulds out of the cupboard and then it all went wrong.I ended up pouring myself a drink of the orange juice and deciding to make pink gin gummy bears instead as they sounded much more fun to make (and … [Read more...]
#Fakeaway Slimming World Homemade Chicken Shawarma {Including my special Chicken Shawarma Spice Blend}….
This homemade Chicken Shawarma is going to be your new favourite fakeaway whether you're on Slimming World or you're just looking for a budget-friendly delicious alternative to a takeaway. My family enjoy it more than they like our fakeaway doner kebab!A little while ago, I bought a ready mixed spice blend for chicken shawarma which gave our chicken the most amazing flavour but when we ran out, I decided that I'd have a go at making my own. It worked out pretty good if I do say so myself and now that I've made it a couple of times, I thought it was time to share my secret … [Read more...]
