Last week I went a bit spray paint crazy but out of everything I made this gorgeous painted glass vase is my favourite thing!Ages agos, I went to B&Q for a paintbrush and came home with a can of copper spray paint with a vague idea of upcycling an old table but I just never got around to doing it so last week I got out the spray paint to crack on with a few other projects I'd had in my head that I wanted to try. One of the first things I want to do was to try and glam up a pretty boring glass vase that I bought for about £2 - I'm sure it's from Ikea but it could be from Tesco to … [Read more...]
Family Days Out – Monkey Haven, Isle of Wight….
I really didn't want to visit the Monkey Haven when we visited the Isle of Wight for a week recently because I thought it would make me a little bit sad (and very angry) to see the animals that had been so badly neglected before being rescued and re-homed to their new home.I was talked into it by Master Frugal though who loves monkeys and wanted to see them regardless of their sad stories! I'm so pleased he talked me into going though as I loved it almost as much as he did. It's not just monkey's at Monkey Haven though, the first animals we saw when we walked in were the cheeky Meerkats … [Read more...]
Moneysaving Back to School tips….
Contrary to popular belief, back to school shopping doesn't have to cost a fortune! For the last couple of weeks, emails keep dropping in my inbox telling me just how expensive it is to do your back to school shopping. From memory, I think that the amounts it's claimed that people spend range from £200 - £500 per child which I can't help but think is ridiculous for most schools.I get that there will be times when you will have to buy everything which will inevitably cost more but my two haven't cost anywhere near that much. Here's my top tops for saving money on your back to … [Read more...]
Fidget Spinner Boredom Buster….
Bored jars are so last year, this years new thing here in the frugal house is our homemade Fidget Spinner Boredom Buster!Sometimes I think that the reason children are so easily bored these days is because they have so many things to choose from when they’re thinking of something to do.I sound like an antique when I say that don’t I? I just think that sometimes having too much choice makes it harder to make a decision. That’s why I always used our bored jar when the kids were younger and later, when they were older we switched to our bored jar fit for a tween. These days … [Read more...]
Five places to buy designer handbags for less….
OK, you might not think that a blog about frugal living isn't the best place for a post about how to buy designer handbags for less and to a certain extent, I agree. But....The reason I'm sharing this post with you today is because, to me, being frugal is all about making the best of what you have and getting the best deals for everything you buy. If you want to buy a designer handbag and you can afford it then that's brilliant and I want to show you where you can get designer handbags for less.I've always had a weakness for handbags although I don't make frivolous purchases … [Read more...]
Small things that make me smile {August 2017}….
The last 12 months haven't been easy for us as a family - first I spent the last half of last year feeling less than brilliant and then this year there's been such a lot going on that I've been ridiculously stressed about. I think things are starting to sort themselves out now so I'm ready to share a little bit about what's been going on although I'm probably not going to go into much detail - I will say that after a lot of tears (from me), shouting (from my usually lovely Dad) and hugs (from Mr Frugal and the kids) my now lovely again Dad is living in a care home as it's clear that … [Read more...]
