It's such a fine line between being a friend to your child and being a parent and it's important that you get the right balance because if you're too strict and controlling then I think that children will rebel as soon as they get the chance to. At the opposite end of the spectrum, if you're too much of a friend to your children then you might find discipline to be a problem at some point because they haven't had enough structure.I have a really good relationship with Miss Frugal who's now 11 and I really want to keep it that way as she gets older although I know that's going to be an … [Read more...]
How to be the best wife ever….
Our main family computer is tucked around a corner in the kitchen on a too small computer desk that we bought because a) I didn't want the computer taking over the room and b) it's the same colour as the tiles in the kitchen.Until recently, we didn't have a special computer chair for it and we just used a dining chair from our old dining set before we got rid of it and I was happy with this. Everyone else in the family, led by Mr Frugal, didn't share my feelings though and whinged told me that the chair was uncomfortable! To me though, a chair is a chair and there always seems to be … [Read more...]
Fashion Friday – Who chooses the clothes in your house….
I've been criticised in the past for saying that I let my children choose their own clothes and I'm curious to see if I'm the only one who does that because I genuinely can't understand why someone would make their children wear clothes that they don't feel happy in. Miss Frugal is 11 and she has very individual taste in clothes - she has one pair of skinny jeans and one pair of track suit bottoms in her wardrobe which are rarely worn but everything else is less mainstream for an 11 year old. In the Summer, she spent most of her time in maxi dresses and shortsuits and now it's winter she's … [Read more...]
Five ways to de-clutter and make some money….
Am I correct in thinking that it's OK to talk about Christmas now that the Coca Cola advert has been on TV ;-)I hope so, because with just 38 days to go, I've got lots to say, I'll try and keep most of my Christmas mutterings confined to the OneStopChristmasBlog but very often every now and again I'm not going to be able to help myself!Like today for example, we're using today to have a bit of a pre-Christmas clear out as we do every year around this time and I'm going to try and make some money with our things to go towards our Christmas fund.I find it much easier to clear our the … [Read more...]
I miss the ‘Dear Santa’ days….
Miss Frugal's 11 now and most definitely doesn't believe in Santa anymore. She didn't last year or even, I suspect the year before that either but she at least pretended for my sake. It's different this year though because she knows that I know that she knows that the big man isn't real so she doesn't feel the need to humour me as she's done for the last few years. She's still pretending to believe in front of Master Frugal though because we're not actually sure if he's still a believer - I'm almost positive that he is but that could just be wishful thinking on my part. Now that she's a … [Read more...]
Not quite grown up yet….
Both of my children are wishing away their childhood at the moment - they're at the in between age where they want to be older so they can be more independent and do new things but at the same time they're not ready to let go of some of their childhood cuddly toys.Miss Frugal who loves to play dress up, experiment with her make up and style her hair to within an inch if it's life always reaches for her favourite teddy when she's tired or feeling the need for a cuddle from him for whatever reason.Whenever we go anywhere that involves a night away or she goes on a sleepover, I can … [Read more...]
