It's been a while since I've written one of these posts isn't it?I really do believe that it's never to early to start teaching children the value of money and I strongly feel that it should be a subject covered in the National Curriculum both at primary and secondary level. But as much as I'm sure that most teachers try to cover this, it's not currently covered as a stand alone subject so it's our job as parents to make sure we help our children learn about finance and the impacts it can have on their life when their older. That's why I started writing these … [Read more...]
On Wednesdays we wear pink….
It's the 10th Anniversary of the release of the film Mean Girls today!Ten years ago I watched the film while Miss Frugal was just a baby and Master Frugal wasn't even thought about.Today, the film is 10 years old and Miss Frugal is 11 (going on 15). She's getting ready to start senior school in September where she'll no doubt face some, if not all of the teem traumas in the film. She's going to come across some mean girls (even meaner than some that she's already encountered) and she's going to learn that no matter how hard she tries, she can't please everyone. … [Read more...]
I’m not sure you’re ready for this – Mind reading by Master Frugal….
Last week we were sent a fantastic magic kit by the lovely people at Innocent and I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that Master Frugal's eyes almost popped on when he saw it. He shut himself away for an hour yesterday with it and then gathered us all in the living room for his 'show' and he actually did amaze me with some of the tricks he managed to pull off. He's even going to read your mind today to show just how good a magician he really is....Did he manage to read your mind? And if your children want to learn a quick and easy magic trick to amaze everyone … [Read more...]
A clean house is the sign of a wasted life. Right?
We've all heard (and some have probably used) the phrase ' A clean house is the sign of a wasted life' haven't we?And what about this one? Both great mottos for life and I actually kind of agree with both of them if I'm honest. But, even though there's nothing wrong with a bit of dust on the TV cabinet or a carpet that needs a bit of a hoover or even a skirting board that needs a clean, I do always feel happier if things are clean and sparkly as well as tidy.I'be been introducing more things to help me keep on top of a clean and tidy house lately and it seems to be working … [Read more...]
A fishy tale with a sad ending….
One of our goldfish sadly died yesterday, we had been expecting it so it wasn't a shock but it was still a sad moment. We held a very touching toilet burial ceremony for Jackson which involved us saying a few words to thank him for the contribution he made to our fishy community and to send him to the big blue sea in the sky.We grieved for an hour or so and then headed off to the Pet shop to replace him (as you do) and ended up buying two because the kids couldn't decide on which one to get. Master Frugal chose one who he called Ninja as soon as he saw him as he had a marking on … [Read more...]
Find the Beautiful in Every Day….
Sometimes, when things don't go to plan or I'm feeling a bit down, I think that the best thing way to deal with things is to look at the things that have happened in my day to make me even just a little bit happy - because just like the supermarket (can't remember which), it all adds up!The smallest things have been making me smile recently so I wanted to share them with you - flowers in a muddy field, smiles, squeals, cake and even a bath! And while we're on the subject of looking for happy things, have you seen the lovely shiny new Embrace Happy site that Karin … [Read more...]
