After my moan at the weekend, I've spent this week trying to get on top of things and get us all more organised as well as taking full advantage of the gorgeous weather we've been having. This next month is the busiest of the year for us, as it is for lots of you. We've got end of term fun days, talent shows, school trips, transition days at the senior school for Miss Frugal, leaver assembly, parents nights, residential trips with the school....I could go on but I won't bore you too much - all you really need to know is that we have a LOT going on! But this week, we actually haven't … [Read more...]
Thrifty Thursday – 15 Ways to save money in the kitchen….
It's OK, I'm not going to go on about meal planning again although that's clearly my first way to save money in the kitchen - if you don't already meal plan, you should. If you do, you'll be nodding your head right now agreeing that this is by far the easiest way to save money in the kitchen. But even aside from meal planning, the kitchen is one area where you can save money easily without really changing much at all. Here's my favourite kitchen moneysaving tips.... Cook and serve the right portion sizes - Pasta and rice are the main foods that I regularly over estimate the amount I need to … [Read more...]
Siblings – June….
I say this every month, but I look forward to writing this post every month and it's easily my favourite post of the month.Like all brothers and sisters, my two argue but on the whole, they get on really well and they actually seem to like each other most of the time. Believe me though, when they do argue, they really do and there's door slamming and hair flicking all over the place! ;-)We've had a lovely month this month, made even better by the lovely weather we've had! We've had lots of mini adventures and have lots more planned for the rest of the Summer too.... … [Read more...]
A Rainy day doesn’t have to be a stuck in the house day….
All week, I've been hoping forward to a lovely sunny weekend so I could make some inroads into the overgrown mess that is currently our back garden. Clearly it wasn't meant to be though because I got up this morning, pulled open the curtains and was greeted by a cloudy grey sky instead of the sunshine I wanted! So now that I have a gardening free weekend stretching ahead of me, I decided to have some fun with the kids even though I think were secretly hoping to spending the weekend being lazy and playing Minecraft.Last Summer I wrote a post about our favourite thing to do when it's … [Read more...]
Having a T20 Blast….
Last Thursday we were invited to pop along to Durham Cricket ground to watch the Durham Jets play a home match in the T20 Blast series. If I'm honest, I wasn't particularly excited about this as I had no idea how to tell the difference between a stump and a wicket (still don't actually) or how to tell a four from a six (that one I do know now) but Mr Frugal was quite excited when he heard it was a T20 Blast match and not an actual cricket match - he assured me that these matches were shorter and more exciting than traditional cricket matches. The kids were really excited too although … [Read more...]
The difference a year makes….
I wrote the title of this post at the end of last week and I was going to write a bit of a philosophical type post inspired by this quote that some lovely sent me:But then we had a lovely weekend away and I realised that there's no point dwelling on things I can't change, no matter how much I'd like to. So I decided not to write the post I was going to write and instead you have two lovely photos taken a year apart at Knowlsley Safari Park (more on that later in the week). They might not look any different to you but to me they've changed massively in the last twelve months - … [Read more...]
