In the past I've always said that Sky TV was something that we would happily pay for - it was our little luxury and we were OK with it seeing as we don't drink, smoke or go out very much!I can't remember exactly how much we used to pay for our Sky package but I think it used to be around £70 a month for the full package including the movies and the sports. We recently changed to Virgin Media and saved a fortune by taking our phone and broadband with them and getting a cheaper package without the sports or the movies. The sports channels are no big loss to anyone apart from Mr Frugal … [Read more...]
125+ things to do this October Half Term….
Keeping the kids occupied during the October half term can be more challenging than during the rest of the school holidays thanks to the often miserable weather so I thought I'd put together a little round up of a few of my posts to give you some ideas on what you can do to stop the usual 'I'm bored' whinges....And then there's this post which features five of our favourite cooking with kids recipes and these ten posts which are about little DIYs that Miss Frugal has done recently. And I always find that our bored jars come in very handy at this time of year.... … [Read more...]
#BargainOfTheWeek – My New Settee….
This week's bargain of the week is my best bargain yet! ;-)I just got a new (to me) corner settee and cuddle chair for my living room for absolutely nothing - thanks to my lovely Dad. He bought it not long ago and decided that it's not a great fit for his living room after all so he's bought a new one and had this one delivered to us!It does take up more space than our old one but we're getting our TV mounted on the wall this week so we can get rid of the TV cabinet and pop the cuddle chair where that used to go.We sold our old one for £50 and i used the money to buy the quote … [Read more...]
Why ‘Relaxed’ Bedtimes work for us….
I've been debating whether to share our bedtime routine with you because it's not exactly parenting at it's best and I know that lots of you will completely disagree with our bedtimes rules and routine. In the end, I decided to go for it after seeing one of my friends post an update on Facebook tonight about the nightmare night they've had trying to get the kids settled in bed.I want to share what happens in our house on a night because bedtimes are a stress free time for us and have been for a good few years now....Bedtime We don't have set bedtimes here which cuts down on the … [Read more...]
Please, please, please ALWAYS slice grapes before giving them to young children….
This isn't the post that I had planned for today but something happened last night that made me hug my children a bit harder before bed and has had me feeling sad all day today so this is my attempt to try and help stop it from happening again.Last night, at 7pm, a little boy's life support machine was switched off in a town very close to where I live. He'd been in hospital since last Friday when a family meal out to Pizza Hut ended in tragedy as he choked on a grape.I don't know the exact details but what I do know is that it's a terrible story that's touched so many people locally. … [Read more...]
Ten feelings that money can’t buy….
I often think of ideas for posts at random times and I have various different ways to record the ideas to make sure I don't forget them - I always have a notebook in my bag in case I want to go oldstyle (or if the battery's dead on my phone), I write ideas in the notes section of my phone or if I'm near to my laptop then I save a draft post in my blog with just the title of the post I want to write. In an ideal world, I'd have time to then go back and actually write all of the posts that are sitting there but it doesn't always happen! This post is a prime example as I started writing it … [Read more...]
