How on earth is it nearly March?1) I bought a of pack of ready peeled and chopped swede reduced to 37p from the shop the other day and made a gorgeous curried swede soup which was delicious. It was just what I needed for lunch when it was -1 c outside!2) I went to Ikea at the weekend for a look around to get some inspiration and ideas for our house this year and although I came away brimming with ideas, I actually only spent £2 and that was on a gorgeous little plant pot type thing that I'm using as a pen holder at the moment. I even used my Ikea family card to get a free cuppa … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week {19th February 2016}….
It's never easy to be frugal over the school holidays but I don't think we've done too bad a job....1) Miss Frugal has become a bit of an expert in pizza making lately and proudly managed to make us all one for tea this week with no help at all. It's quite easy to make and is super tasty as well as being a pretty cheap family meal. She uses a super simple recipe which is:125g bread flour, 7g yeast packet 75ml warm waterAll mixed together and kneaded for five minutes before rolling out to a thin base)Served with some sweet potato fries and a salad (I say salad - it was … [Read more...]
15 amazing ideas for using up leftover conditioner….
Have you ever been seduced into buying the conditioner that supposedly compliments your shampoo and then only used it once or twice?I haven't for a long time as I know that conditioner makes my hair too soft to do anything with but Miss Frugal is a whole different story. She came home from a recent shopping trip with two bottle of fruity shampoo and two matching bottles of conditioner because 'they smell gorgeous and they were 4 for £3.00'.The problem is that she has really sensitive skin so the shampoos made her itch and the conditioners made her hair look greasy so all four bottles … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week {12th February 2016}….
1) I made a double batch of my homemade slow cooker tomato sauce and used it for various different meals this week - We had chicken wrapped in bacon with this over the top and some sweet potato fries, we used it as a pizza topping for our homemade pizzas as well as a sauce to go with homemade meatballs and spaghetti. They were all completely different meals so no one really noticed that this was a vital part of each meal.2) I haven't been feeling amazing this week so I made myself some camomile, honey and lemon ice pops to try and help my throat instead of dosing up on … [Read more...]
Let’s talk about what happens when you can’t afford to pay the bills….
I've written before calculating your monthly budget using my free printable budget planner but today I wanted to try and help with some advice about what you can do if you don't have enough money coming in each month to cover what you're paying out and you can't afford to pay your bills.I'm by no means an expert on this subject but I do know that if you realise that you don't have enough money to pay bills then you need to take action - sooner rather than later. I know that this might seem like a bit of an obvious thing to say but from experience (work not personal) I know that some … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week {5th February 2016}….
1) One of the things I wanted to do this year was take care of myself a little bit better and start making time for me and I'm really trying to stick to that. I'm really pleased with my progress at Slimming World and I'm feeling quote good about myself at the moment even though I've got a LONG way to go.As part of my new 'me' regime I bought myself some new nail varnishes and a new lipgloss from our local Pounstretchers - not bad for a pound each!2) If you pay your council tax over 10 months then this month and next are no council tax months (or at least they are for us). In the … [Read more...]
