Last week's meal plan went OK but I had to nip to the shop twice midweek - once for dog food and the second time for baking supplies for the bake sale at work that I promised I'd cook for. Both times I bought a few extras which meant I ended the week over budget but we're getting closer to it so I'm not too dissappointed ;-) Here's this weeks meal plan:Saturday: Shepherds PieSunday: Sunday Lunch - Chicken, roasties, veg and Yorkshire puddingsMonday: Chicken and mushroom pasta (see below) using up the leftover chicken from Sunday.Tuesday: Macaroni cheeseWednesday: … [Read more...]
Family Friendly, Frugal Meals – Chilli….
Inspired by the lovely Jen at the Madhouse whose brilliant article about feeding your family on £50.00 a week has just been published in the Guardian, I'm determined to reduce the amount of money that we spend on food each month. We have a grocery budget of £250.00 a month at the moment which is for 2 adults and 2 children. This covers all of our meals at home, packed lunches for me and the kids as well as all of our other household stuff. We used to be pretty good at sticking to the budget but lately I've been so busy that I haven't been doing our shopping online or been meal planning as … [Read more...]
Magic Mince….
When I first started meal planning, I found it a bit daunting - the idea of cooking something from scratch every night was a bit much for me and I was sure my limited recipe repertoire would meant we'd be eating macaroni cheese at least 5 nights a week. But then I discovered the magic of making double whenever I made something and freezing some for next time. Right now, crammed into my freezer, I have a big lasagne, a fish pie, a cottage pie and lots of single portions of meal leftovers (all home made) so that I can make a quick and easy tea when I get in from work. I really could do with … [Read more...]
A Frugal Christmas Dinner….
I know I'm a bit early but..... Christmas Dinner is a massive part of Christmas Day and it's my favourite part of the whole day (apart from the presents obviously lol) but the thing I have a problem with is spending so much money on one meal. The most important thing to me about Christmas Dinner is all of the family sat round the table together having fun and you don't need to spend much money to do that.Don't get me wrong, we do spend more than usual on our Christmas dinner but ultimately it's just a Sunday dinner and you can only eat so much can't you? We usually have a starter … [Read more...]
This weeks Frugal Meal Plan….
I may have mentioned that I'm now off work for TWO WHOLE WEEKS (not that I'm excited or anything), we've got loads planned and Mr Frugal's neice is coming to stay for a week so I thought it would be an ideal time to get back in to my meal planning. If I don't have something planned for our meals I can see us spending a fortune (which we don't have) in the next few weeks. We've got loads of days out and a couple of days at Haggerston Castle planned so my plan might look a little bit all over the place but bear with me ;-) Saturday - Homemade PizzaSunday - Away at Drayton Manor so … [Read more...]
Half Term Meal Plan….
I love having a meal plan because it makes me feel organised and efficient as well as saving me lots of pennies - it's just the actual sitting down and writing the meal plan and the shopping list that I hate! I really must try and get myself motivated and start doing this every week again! So, here's my half term meal plan: Saturday: Lunch - Pizza Smiles Tea - Home made macaroni cheese Sunday: Brunch - American Style Pankcakes Tea - Sunday Lunch (if the rain stops we're off to Lightwater Valley - picnic in that … [Read more...]
