Today I'm sharing the second post in my 'What we ate in a week' series! The plan with these posts is that I start writing this post the Monday before you read it each month and just update it each night with a photo of what we had for our tea that day. It worked pretty well last time I did this so let's see if I'm as good this time... MondayMushroom risotto was on the menu tonight, inspired by the pathetic looking mushrooms that were sitting in the bottom of the fridge. I added some chilli for a bit of heat too and it tasted lovely! TuesdayBefore Christmas, I bought a … [Read more...]
50 Common Sense tips to help you save money in the kitchen….
Warning: these are not innovative new ideas to save money in the kitchen! They're things that your common sense tells you that you should be doing but I can practically guarantee that you won't be doing most of them...50 Common Sense tips to help you save money in the kitchen! Make sure you have a weekly shopping budget and that you stick to it. I worked mine out originally by looking at my receipts to see how much I spent in a week and then taking 10% off that. ‘Vague’ meal planning for beginners….
The changeable weather at this time of year is definitely making meal planning a bit more challenging....The weather makes it difficult to know what to plan for tea at the moment! If I plan ahead for a roast dinner at the weekend, and then the sun comes out then everyone wants something lighter than a full on Sunday dinner because, let's face it, no-one fancies a big roast dinner while the sun's shining (or at least we don't).I've been quite vague with my meal planning lately to combat the changing weather that we're seeing at the moment. Do you think you could feed a family of four a three course meal for under five pounds? Here's my menu....Starter - Potato skins with garlic mayo (15p) I really love potato skins as a starter when we go out for a meal but it never occurred to me just how frugal it was for the restaurant serving it as the dish is literally made with potato peelings that would otherwise be thrown in the bin!I was planning to do mashed potato for our main course so I used a sharp knife to peel the potatoes which meant I got a little more potato on the peeling if that makes sense. ;-) I then just … [Read more...]

MondayWe made some really quick and easy fajitas for tea tonight with some sliced yellow and green peppers and red onion gently fried in a little olive oil with two chicken breasts that I remembered to get out of the freezer last … [Read more...]
