Did you see last week's post about all the different ways that I use my slow cooker mince and onions? This week, I thought I'd share all the ways that I use another of my batch cooking staple - bolognese.A big batch of slow cooker bolognese is one of my favourite easy dinners. It takes hardly any effort, smells amazing all day, and you end up with a rich, flavourful sauce that can be used in so many different ways. I almost always make extra because it freezes brilliantly and can be turned into a whole week’s worth of meals with hardly any extra work. Here are eight of my favourite ways … [Read more...]
Six ways to use up simple Slow Cooker Mince…
I don't think I can remember a weekly meal in this house that doesn't feature my slow cooker mince and onions in some form or another and today, I'm going to share exactly why that is.😁Slow cooker mince and onions is budget-friendly, easy to make, and it's so so versatile that I wouldn't be without a batch (or six) in our freezer. It takes about 3 minutes to prep and then the slow cooker does the hard work for you so I often buy a pack of mince specifically to make a batch of this for the freezer and if ever I see reduced mince in the clearance section then I will buy it and make a … [Read more...]
Why you should LOVE your freezer….
If there’s one kitchen appliance that deserves a little more appreciation, it’s your freezer. Meal planning is one of the quickest ways to bring your food costs down — and your freezer makes it even easier. Food shopping is something we all have to spend money on and I promise you that … [Read more...]
Halloween Pumpkin Peppers….
I'm not normally one for making food look pretty but last week I spotted some lovely looking orange peppers in the reduced section at the shop and as soon as I spotted them, I knew exactly what I was going to make with them - Halloween Pumpkin Peppers! And I don't even care that there's still a month left until Halloween!Halloween pumpkin peppers are so easy to make and they can be prepared in advance of when you want to cook them which makes them even better in my eyes. I made these guys when I was on a late shift at work last week and left them in the fridge for Mr Frugal and the kids … [Read more...]
Leftover Mash Cheesy Potato Pancakes….
These cheesy Potato Pancakes are an amazing way to use up leftover mashed potatoes!I've tried making something similar to this in the past to use up leftover gammon and mash but as amazing as they tasted, they definitely didn't look as tasty as they could have done. And then I saw a recipe for something similar which used flour to thicken the mix before cooking so I had a try making them with the added flour and they held their shape so much better when they were cooking. I also used more oil this time which isn't my favourite way to cook but it definitely helped them … [Read more...]
Instant Pot ham, potato and corn chowder….
Honestly, this Instant Pot Ham, Potato and Corn Chowder is life-changing* and I can practically guarantee that once you've made this once, it'll be a regular addition to your weekly meal plan.*OK, life-changing may be a slight exaggeration but it's AMAZING!**Also, I should say that the photos don't do this justice as it was a grey day outside (hence the need for comfort food like this) and there was no way any amount of editing was going to pep them up!I'm really loving my Instant Pot now that I'm starting to get a bit braver with it! When I first got it, I honestly looked at … [Read more...]
