I've been reading a book which has pretty much revolutionised my thinking about tidying at home (and also in my life but that's a whole other story for another time ;-)) and it got me thinking that maybe there was a way that I could help you clear some of the clutter in your house without you having to do too much at once.I would say though, that the book I've been reading ( ) is amazing and actually recommends doing everything at once rather than bit by bit and I can definitely see the logic in that. Unfortunately, between work, the kids and everything else I'm juggling at the moment I … [Read more...]
Redecorating my living room on a budget in a day – the before pictures….
Usually on a lovely long weekend like this one, I'd be out and about with the kids making the most of our time off together but this weekend is a bit different. This weekend I'll be redecorating my living room on a budget along with some other jobs that I really need to get done around the house. My living room which is red and cream at the moment with some random orange and cream wallpaper on one wall which used to be our feature wall until a furniture move about when we got our new settee - now it just looks odd! Here's an idea of what it looks like now:To me, it just doesn't … [Read more...]
How to make your home feel snug and cosy when it’s miserable outside (without spending a fortune)….
We've had our first real snow of the year today and even that was only around for long enough for a quick snowball fight before the sun came out and started to melt it!We made the most of it though and had a family snowball fight in the front garden while the dog looked through the window at us in disgust because he hates the snow. ;-)Even after just a few minutes outside in the cold, it was lovely to come in to our warm and cosy living room and snuggle up under the blankets and it got me thinking of other ways that we've made our house into a cosy and welcoming home. Here's just a … [Read more...]
Converting the garage {Part One}….
When we bought our current house, we deliberately chose a slightly smaller house than we could have afforded (I know - the complete opposite to what the experts tell you to do) because we wanted to have more money each month for family fun.I know that isn't the best thing to do but we moved house not long after my Mam and my brother died and at the time all I that was getting me through the days was my family and having seen just how short life can be, I wanted to make sure that we made the most of every single day.I was also convinced that my old home was unlucky as we didn't have the … [Read more...]
A quick decorating refresh before Christmas….
Every January I make at least one New Year's Resolution that involves the house and last year was no exception. I promised myself that I would get the hall, stairs and landing painted (not an easy job with such a high ceiling) and that I would do the downstairs bathroom out as we've never bothered since we moved in really.Fast forward, 11 and a half months and here I am sat here wondering where the time has gone with the same grubby hallway and the same boring bathroom. Both rooms are painted in the same boring magnolia paint that the builder used when they first decorated the house and … [Read more...]
My secret to a super tidy home….
I'm 99% certain that the majority of you will agree with me when I say that I HATE cleaning. I do as little as I can to keep the house clean and relatively tidy but often put off jobs that need doing because there's something more interesting to do (watching paint dry and waiting for a pot to boil spring to mind here ;-)).But I've got a new secret weapon that helps me to keep the house looking spick and span without even needing to lift a finger and I guarantee that you won't guess what it is....Actually, it's not a what but a who....She's like my little cleaning fairy and I … [Read more...]
