On Saturday we've lived in our house for four years and although I'm gradually starting to get sorted, it's still very magnolia. I have no idea where the time has gone but I'm determined not to start another new year with decorate the house being one of my New Year Resolutions! The children's bedrooms were the first rooms we decorated when we moved in as we wanted them to be comfortable in their new bedrooms. I really think it's important that children have input into their own spaces so Master Frugal's room had an alien / sky at night vibe going on and Miss Frugal's was very a very girly … [Read more...]
Scandal at the Boot Sale….
I love having a wander around the car boot sale on a Sunday afternoon but yesterday I was quite shocked by something that I saw, perhaps naively so. I was stood at a stall with Miss Frugal when someone pointed out to the stallholder that a lady was filling a carrier bag with items off the bonnet of her car. The stallholder shouted at the lady who was moving away at this point and ended up running after her and grabbing the lady's bags off her. They both started shouting and the 'thief' said she had just forgot to pay! After a bit of a tussle the stallholder grabbed the lady's bags and … [Read more...]
Home is Where the Heart is….
Although I'm not usually a superstitious person, I'm convinced that our last house was jinxed. From the day we heard that our offer had been accepted until when we moved out it felt like bad things kept happening to us. In fact, in the two years that we lived there, my brother died, my mam died, someone crashed into both of our cars and totalled them while they were parked outside, our roof leaked, we found mould in the kitchen that the survey hadn't picked up, the gas company refused to install gas so we couldn't get central heating (cue massive heating costs), a giant crack appeared in the … [Read more...]
Bank Holiday Bargains and a Finished Project….
Seeing as Miss Frugal's hasn't got home from last nights sleepover yet, we decided to take Master Frugal to the car boot sale this afternoon to buy him some treats to cheer him up a bit and we couldn't have picked a better day to go - loads of stalls and not many visitors We got two 'awesome' Spiderman cars for him for 50p each, Spiderman on a bike (that lights up, makes noise AND moves) for 50p, a batman on a bike and a batman moster truck for 50p, a bag full of knights (for the Knights castle we bought a few weeks ago) for £1.00 and a free pirates ship as the man wasn't wanting to take … [Read more...]
How to Spend a Bank Holiday Monday….
Despite having the last week off work, as of this morning I hadn't done the majority of things on my week off 'to do list' (Yes, I really did write one ;-)) As I'm back at work tomorrow, that left me today to do it all.... Top of my list was to sort out more storage for Master Frugal's room as he has the smallest room in the house with enough toys and books in there to fill five rooms. Ages ago I'd bought some colourful storage crates and some shelves to put them on but I hadn't got around to building them as I couldn't face the mammoth task of sorting the toys out when they were built and … [Read more...]
This weeks Bargains….
As part of my home makeover resolution for this year, I've decided to make a photo wall with all my favourite photo's, so I spent most of last night scouring ebay for photo frames and I'm going on a charity shop hunt for some more tomorrow. I want all the photo frames to be white and pretty rather than just the usual plain frames you get so I'm really pleased with the ones I've got so far: I know you might think that £30.00 for the frames isn't really a bargain but the wall is going to be a big feature and although I can add to it with other bargains that I pick up, I wanted to get it off … [Read more...]
