I am fully aware that you hate me right now and that your finger is hovering over the X in the corner of your screen but I have some very good reasons for using the dreaded C word so early in the year.Shall I tell you my reasons why? It's because for those people who are paid monthly, Christmas is now only four paydays away and that's if you're counting December payday which is usually right before Christmas and has to last you until payday in January. That means that in reality, you only have three paydays left until Christmas. Are you still with me?There's also the fact that … [Read more...]
Don’t fall into the Christmas trap….
Christmas is not about having tins of Quality Street and Roses stacked high in your cupboard.Christmas is not about filling your cabinet with alcohol.Christmas is not about emptying the supermarkets of fruit and veg.Christmas is not about eating until you feel sick on Christmas Day and then going back for pudding half an hour later.Christmas is not about who’s tree looks the nicest.Christmas is not about buying the most expensive toys and gifts.Christmas is not about sitting in front of the TV all day watching repeats of shows you’ve seen more times than you can … [Read more...]
Moneysaving at Christmas….
Christmas can be an expensive time of year for most of us and it's so easy to overspend on things you don't really need and end up paying the price in January (and beyond)!I've put together a little list of things that help me to save me money at this time of year in the hope that some of them will also help you to save a little bit too. A lot of them are genuinely common sense and you're probably already doing most of them but it's always worth a quick reminder, isn't it? ;-)If you're not going to be visiting someone until after Christmas then you could always buy their presents in … [Read more...]
#SecondHandChristmas….
What are your thoughts on buying gifts for people from a charity shop?Personally, I have no problem with it and at least a few of the presents that will be wrapped up under the tree on Christmas morning will be second-hand.Don't get me wrong though - I'm very fussy about what I buy, especially when I'm buying gifts as I always like to buy something that I know the recipient will love. Something they'll know that I've put thought into and chosen because I know how much they'll like it.Not long ago I was asked to pop along to our local Salvation Army charity shop and see what I … [Read more...]
#FrugalGiftGuide – Boys aged 9+ ….
Yesterday I told you all about what I thought the perfect gifts for girls would be and today it's the turn of the boys - boys of Master Frugal's age to be exact, although I'm sure that lots of the presents in this gift guide will go down just as well with girls of a similar age. Something to readI always buy at least one book for the kids for Christmas - this year's most requested book from Master Frugal is the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book. I also have the box set of Tom Gates books which are along a similar line of the wimpy kid books. I also have a great book on how to draw things … [Read more...]
#FrugalGiftGuide – Tween and Teen Girls….
Like lots of people, I'm not as frugal at Christmas as I am throughout the rest of the year but I do like to make sure that I get the best deals possible and that the presents I buy aren't going to sit in a drawer or on a shelf gathering dust. I don't think you need to spend a lot at Christmas and I know it's not all about the presents but realistically all of us have gifts to buy for our loved ones and I wanted to share some ideas for some great gifts that I've come across. My first gift guide is aimed at people buying for girls from about Year 6 upwards and it's based on my experiences of … [Read more...]
