If anyone asks me the first thing they should do to start saving money, I always without fail tell them that the absolute first thing to start with is to look at their food shopping habits.Meal planning is a must for me but I need to make sure I'm organised in order to do that successfully and make sure that our shopping budget is as low as possible, while still making sure that we eat well.I make sure that I plan our meals for the following week before I go shopping and that I use food that we already have in where possible to keep my shopping bill down. To make sure I get everything … [Read more...]
Wednesday’s Wardrobe – Why it pays to have patience and shop around….
Welcome to this week's Wednesday's Wardrobe!Wednesday’s Wardrobe is a weekly linky that I'll be co-hosting along with two fantastic bloggers, Emma and Sarah and Miss Frugal especially is really enjoying working on these posts together each week.In the last year or so, I've developed a bit of a love for all things Orla Kiely which doesn't necessarily sit well with my frugal side. I think her designs are beautiful and I spent most of last year drooling over some of her bag designs and going backwards and forwards between really wanting to treat myself and realising that there was better … [Read more...]
{Free Printable} Find out what your children really want to do in the school holidays…..
I always find it surprising when I asked the kids what they enjoy doing and what they would like to do together mainly because it often turns out that they really don't want to do some of the things I thought they would enjoy doing!I'll plan a lovely day out with a picnic when they would rather just play in the back garden with their water guns or I might plan a movie afternoon when they'd much prefer to be outside at the park.To get round this, I always get them both involved when we're making plans for a day out (or even a day at home). When they were younger we used to make a wish … [Read more...]
Siblings – May 2015
I've just had a look back through the blog and I don't think I've done a Siblings post since the end of last year - surprising because it used to be my favourite linky and I used to look forward to writing my Siblings post every single month. There's a couple of reasons why I haven't been joining in over the last few months - the first I can do something about and the second not so much. The first reason is because I've been taking less photos which has meant that I haven't had many great photos of them both together to share with you. It hasn't been intentional, in fact I think it's … [Read more...]
When a big company takes advantage of a young girl….
I'm used to companies targeting their advertising to my children but this week a large company has taken advantage of Miss Frugal and made her feel uncomfortable in one of their branches and that is unacceptable.I'm not going to name the company as that's not really my thing but I am going to share her experience because as a parent teaching a child about money management, this is something that I hadn't expected or considered so we'd never discussed how to deal with situations like this.I pay Miss Frugal's pocket money into her debit card account each week and she has a debit card so … [Read more...]
Why we’re doing the Race for Life….
Do you know what I can't get my head around sometimes? The fact that we can send people into Space and get them back successfully but we haven't been able to find a cure for the ugly disease that is Cancer yet.How can that be?I lost my Mum and my Brother to Cancer and I can honestly say, hand on heart, that 10 years later (11 for my brother) I still think about them both every day. If I think about it for long enough (apart from making me cry) it makes me angry at the world that they had to suffer like they did and selfishly, it makes me even more angry that I have to go through … [Read more...]
