Last month I read an article in the Daily Mirror online (I know, I don't usually read it but I'd followed a link to a different story and this one caught my eye) about how to get your own student NUS card if you're not a student.I didn't think much more about as I've had such a busy month but then last week at work I was speaking to a training company who I'm going to be doing a few courses with and the assessor mentioned that I'd not only love the course itself (not too sure about that but that's a whole other post) but that I'd also be able to apply for a student card. This got me … [Read more...]
The other side of Football….
The violent scenes shown on TV this week of the clashes between English and Russian football fans have made me feel both sad and angry and whilst I don't claim to know who's at fault or why the fans are rioting, I do know that many innocent people have been caught up in the clashes when all they wanted to do was watch the team they love play the game they love.I've heard people saying that the violence makes them 'ashamed to be English', that it's 'typical of the English fans' and even one comment on Facebook that 'English fans shouldn't be allowed to travel'. Really? Do people really … [Read more...]
Three simple ways to help your anxious child to let go of their worries….
Master Frugal has always been a sensitive child and he's always had a habit of worrying about things that seem relatively unimportant to everyone but him.At one point, his worrying was causing him tummy pains on a night which made it difficult for him to sleep and we actually thought there was something more sinister wrong with him. After lots of blood tests and much prodding and poking by the doctors, it was decided that he was actually suffering from mild anxiety which was a huge relief at the time and made total sense knowing what a little worrier he's always been.It wasn't that he … [Read more...]
Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {10th June 2016}….
1) When my Nana died I was quite heavily pregnant with Miss Frugal so I wasn't really in a position to help when it came to clearing out her home although I did take a couple of things of hers to keep as memories of her. I took a pretty battered looking big metal spoon which she used to use for her baking and a Forever Friends fridge magnet that I'd bought her years before - the spoon is used regularly in my own kitchen now and the fridge magnet is on the front of our knife block where I see it every day. The final thing I brought home with me from her house that last day was some small square … [Read more...]
Are you on #TeamSoft or #TeamTickly with Braun…. #Ad
Last month we shared a video with you to show you why we're #TeamSoft all the way when it comes to a choice between #TeamSoft and #TeamTickly. If you missed the video (which was filled mainly with giggling and the kids deciding that Mr Frugal was scruffy with a beard) then you can find it at the bottom of the post here.We weren't the only ones to share our opinions on the #TeamSoft vs #TeamTickly debate though....Aby from YouBabyMeMummy was my #TeamSoft ally with a gorgeous video featuring three year old Baby declaring that the best way to show her Daddy that she loves … [Read more...]
How to win at parenting with some unexpected help….
Last week I was talking to Miss Frugal about how she needs to keep working as hard as she is now with her school work and I came out with an amazing motivational quote:It sounded familiar even as it came out of my mouth but it wasn't until Miss Frugal said 'Mam, did you actually just quote SClub7 at me?' that I realised exactly why it sounded so familiar.I really did try to teach my child a life lesson using a line from an SClub7 song!*I then spent the rest of the night trying to recall other lines from SClub7 songs that were motivational (as you do when you have about a … [Read more...]
