1) I had to buy the last of Master Frugal's new school uniform this week and although it's pretty hard to save money when most of it is compulsory, I did manage to save a little bit. I have no idea why he needs both a short and long sleeved top along with a hoody but I was a good parent and bought them all along with the school socks! I drew the line at the shorts and the tracksuit bottoms as the PE teacher told me that he'd never wear the tracksuit bottoms and any shorts were OK as long as they were black. He has a pair of black nike shorts that he's going to wear and a pair of plain black … [Read more...]
Packed Lunch Cake – it’s frugal, filling and delicious….
I've always been a fan of packed lunches and in the past, I've written about the fact that I could make a healthy and filling packed lunch for around half the price of a school dinner which has saved me a fortune over the years. With both of mine in senior school from September, I'm no longer going to be making packed lunches but I've just made a final batch of our favourite home made packed lunch cake so I thought I'd share the recipe with you on here again and update the costings for 2016 to show that it's still a very frugal way to get something sweet into your child's packed … [Read more...]
The ONLY Sun protection that I’ll use on my children’s skin….
OK, so I'm going to get it out of the way right at the start and tell you that this isn't a review that I've been asked to write. ;-) I wanted to write this post because I used to constantly worry about my two getting sunburnt and this is the only product that I've found that actually works! Before we had children, we used to go on at least two holidays a year and when they came along, we tried our best not to give up our holidays and would save money each month to pay for our annual family trip which we looked forward to all year. But it all changed when the kids were old enough to … [Read more...]
How I encourage my teen to read over the Summer….
My children have never shown the same love of reading that I remember having at their age and in some ways that makes me a little bit sad. To me, reading is an escape and I love nothing more than curling up in bed on a night and reading a good romance novel (Don't judge me ;-)).Personally, I feel like any chance that they were going to love reading was ruined by over enthusiastic teachers who set them challenges to read a set number of pages every night and a certain number of books a week. Master Frugal once got in to trouble as he was taking too long to read a book and from then on, … [Read more...]
Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {8th July 2016}….
1) I'm quite proud of my first one this week although it's not something that I've personally done. When I was shopping the other day I picked up a bag of Maltesers for us to share when we were watching a film that night. Miss Frugal looked at the bag and then wandered off for a few seconds, coming back with a box of Maltesers instead. She pointed out that as the box was on special offer that I would get more for my money if I bought the box which was more sweets for the same amount of money.2) I bought a new pack of microfibre cloths from Tesco this week - 4 for a £1 which I think is a … [Read more...]
Homemade lavender and oats bath soak….
You only have to look around the supermarket shelves these days to see a huge selection of bath soaks, bath scrubs, bath oils and all manner of body washes and bubbles and if you wanted to, you could spend a fortune on pampering yourself in the bath. But you don't need to spend a fortune on expensive products to have a lovely relaxing soak in the bath! In fact, I often make my own lavender and oats bath soak and I have done since I went to a blogging event about four years ago where we were shown how to make it.I don't grow lavender in my garden as Master Frugal hates bees and it … [Read more...]
