Christmas Eve is my favourite day out of the whole festive period and although I have a post planned to tell you all about our day and what we do a little bit closer to the day itself, I'm going to tell you about one part of the day now. I'm going to tell you about our Christmas Eve box which we've been doing ever since the kids were born - in fact, I think we've been doing it since before Christmas Eve Boxes were even a thing. We started doing a Christmas Eve box because I used to have something similar when I was little and it was a tradition that we decided to continue with our two … [Read more...]
12 Reasons why your Elf on a Shelf forgot to move last night….
The Elf on a Shelf tradition is one that passed us by when the kids were young enough to really believe but we've definitely got on board in the last few years and it's now a bit of a running joke in our house now that our elf, Jingle, arrives with us on the 1st and proceeds to get up to as much mischief as he possibly can.Personally, I don't put too much effort into it because the kids take great pleasure in making him do naughty things and then denying all knowledge that they've moved him (either that or Jingle really is a naughty elf). The first year that Jingle came to stay with us … [Read more...]
Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {9th December 2016}….
1) This is a sad day for me! I went to the shop last night, got all excited when I saw the Radio Times was out and then saw the price of it so put it back on the shelf! Since when did the Radio Times cost £4.50 for the Christmas edition!!!We don't watch TV much at all so it's a total waste of money for us but I would have bought it if it had been a bit cheaper as we like to look through it and highlight what we want to watch. We can just save a fiver though and look at the TV Guide we get with our TV package.2) While I've been ill convenience foods have been a bit of a … [Read more...]
Seven Syn Free party food snacks {Slimming World}….
Wait till you see the syn free party food snacks that I've got to share with you today - they make being on a diet at this time of year much more tolerable! Before I get to them though, I wanted to tell you about the Lidl Hot Air Fryer that they were cooked in because I was sent one to try a couple of weeks ago and it's been amazing.I've had an Air Fryer for a few years now and is one of the most used pieces of kit in my kitchen and before I tried I was convinced that a budget version of the one I had just wasn't going to be able to compete. When we unboxed the Lidl Hot Air Fryer, I … [Read more...]
How to have an amazing Christmas, even when Santa’s skint….
Christmas can be a difficult time when you're struggling to make ends meet. And it's even harder if your children have a wishlist as long as their arm that they just keep adding to every time they watch TV and another advert pops up for something they desperately need. ;-)How do you tell the little ones that they won't be getting everything on their list when they think that Santa is in charge of bringing the presents. How do you tell them that you can't afford what they want, even when they're non-believers and you can already anticipate the snapchats on Christmas morning of their … [Read more...]
Savoury Puff Pastry Christmas Tree….
I sent Mr Frugal to the shop the other night for some bits and bobs and he came home with 5 boxes of ready rolled puff pastry that was reduced to 42p a roll even though it still had a few days left before it needed using up or freezing.I think he had visions of me making him a pie for his tea every night for a week but I had different plans - I've been wanting to try making a puff pastry Christmas tree after seeing one last year but knowing that it was highly likely to go wrong, I'd kept deciding against having a go. Seeing as the pastry was so cheap though and I had some leftovers from … [Read more...]
