I know this is cheating a little bit but…. the theme for this weeks Gallery is ‘A Celebration’ and this post from last week seemed ideal. The photos aren’t great because they were from my pre-budding photography days but they show some of our birthday celebrations from the past few years.
******************************
I thought I was organised for Miss Frugal’s 8th birthday next week…. Party venue booked, invites sent out and party dress bought. I’ve even got the party bags sorted(ish).
But today I’ve found out that it looks as though the place I had booked to hold the party has closed down! We had booked the local children’s haridressers for a pamper party* afternoon for six of Miss Frugal’s friends but now it looks as though it’s closed so I am venue-less with a week to go.
Luckily, one of my friends (who’s a beautician) has volunteered to come to my house with one of her friends and do all the pampering bit so now I just have to let everyone know and prepare for the onslaught of 8 year olds.
I also have to sort out food, something to entertain them when they’re not being pampered and a cake. Not much to do then lol.
I usually do sandwiches, crisps, cakes, strawberries and grapes and sausage rolls. Kids don’t usually want much at a party as they are too busy to stop and eat. I am going to try and do everything pink and girly for the party tea. I don’t think we’re going to make a cake again after last years stress, although it was brilliant if I do say so myself.
I love birthday parties and we always try and do something special for the kids, here’s some of our favourites from the past few years:

The only downside to having two parties a year for 20+ kids (apart from the cost) is that one or both kids get invited to practically every party in town. We had a weekend not so long ago when we had three to go to…. I wonder why my darling husband had to work that weekend.
So people, we now have a party to plan – ideas for pink stuff greatly appreciated.
*Disclaimer 😉 I know a lot of people won’t approve of a pamper party for a group of 8 year olds to have a pamper party with make up and nails and hair do’s, but I think it’s OK for a bit of fun.

I tried once to make the sandwiches by baking my own bread and adding pink colouring (natural – from beetroot essence if I remember correctly) – and guess what, it was an absolute disaster, but we had a lot of fun trying!
Very considerate and exciting submit! I have been looking round for the best Disaster Recovery and located an important web site for them and your website regarded like your readers might worth it so I’ve linked to it here!
Test it out!
– All the best
I love the cake, I had one just like it for my 6th birthday!
Candy floss trees? Maybe nestling next to some pink mice? Maybe also some pink marshmellows pretending to be mushrooms.
Salmon sandwiches or maybe salmon teriyaki (sp?) on sticks. Prawns on sticks with a marie rose super sweet dip that kids love. Also ham sandwiches with some of that reddish pinky lettuce.
Loads of sweet pink things – strawberries and pink cream (using food colouring) or strawberry jelly in shot glasses or pink popping candy or strawberry mini milks. Fondant fancies too! yum…
They are some fantastic ideas – Thanks so much for taking the time x x
Cook two plain round sponges. slice & fill them as normal (icing, jam, whatever), place both on a tray touching each other and cut the centre out of them (use a template like a cup or something similar). Ice or butter cream over the whole lot so that you can't see any joins – the cake is now in the shape of a number 8.
Also – if you're still after ideas for party bags – usually the local cheap shop do multi packs of lipgloss, nail varnish, etc, in trial sizes – and they don't cost that much either.
Now that cake sounds like something I could manage and out of all the ages, it's the one I have the best chance of making and it looking half way decent – I might just try that!
Thanks x
A handful of pink helium balloons on the table and pink napkins on any old plates, they'll love it.!
I have a party to plan for this weekend coming… the trouble with my business is I forget my own children's party bags!
I've just had a look at your site – it's brilliant. Those cupcake party bags are lovely…..
Thanks for the balloon idea x
Pink stuff – add a little maraschino cherry juice to Sprite tints it a pale red (or grenadine) – we call it a Shirley Temple here in the States. Cream cheese dip can be tinted pink – for the fruit – cream cheese whipped up with some confectioner's sugar (I think that's icing sugar in the UK).
I don't suppose you could fly out here and help could you lol….
More great ideas – Thanks again x

Sounds like great fun. I bought plastic champagne flutes and my daughter's friends loved drinking their Sprite out of those and I cut the sandwiches into flower shapes with a cookie cutter. We had fruit and cubes of cheese and veggies (cucumber, celery and carrots) with dip. Finger food is always good. I hope Miss Frugal has a lovely party and can't wait to see the photos!
Thats a fantastic idea about the sandwiches…. She loves it x
A pamper party is fine, it's your party (or rather Miss Frugal's) so don't worry.
She is so excited – I think she's just the right age for a pamper party (I drew the line at a limousine lol)
