I know I’m always telling you about ways to save on your gas and electricity but today I wanted to share with you this:
It’s my latest energy bill, showing that I’m £858.07 in credit! How fantastic is that?
We’ve tried really hard to reduce our energy usage around the house using all of the tips that I regularly share with you on here but as well as the energy we’ve saved by reducing our consumption, we’ve also saved by switching to a different provider.
I think a lot of people don’t realise how easy it is to switch providers. Everything stays exactly the same other than the company who send your bills and the price you pay. In fact, the last time I changed providers it took me about ten minutes online once I’d chosen my tariff and new supplier. It took me longer to choose which company I wanted to go with than it did to do the actual changeover.
You really would be surprised at the differences in price between companies and there are so many different tariffs out there to choose from that you’re probably best using an online comparison site to compare electricity prices and gas prices. That way you can just key in your details once and you are presented with the cheapest options for you and your home.
Don’t forget that it’ll usually be cheaper to take both gas and electricity with the same supplier, to pay by Direct Debit and to manage your account online.
I’ve been told that if you haven’t shopped around for a new deal since the main companies increased their prices last year, then the chances are that you’re paying too much so if that sounds like you then you should have a look around and see how much you can save….

I just found the cheapest energy deal and they even managed the entire switching process for me! You can check them out at http://www.flippercommunity.com And unlike price comparison sites, you don't need to read bills, compare tariffs or deal with suppliers with them, insane!
Flipper checks for cheapest deals throughout the year and will switch again if they find you an even better tariff, and all that for just £25/year! Also the service is free until they find you a saving of at least £50/year I think. Certainly worth it!
I want to say thanks for this useful information, I shared it on my wall to be honnest cause I LIKE it
Thanks very much x
Ohh !! THese are actually gr8 ideas to save money !! Thanks for sharing !!
You're more than welcome x
I am horrified that your utility company actually owes you that amount of money, are you going to ask for it back, and why did you over pay them by such an astronomical amount anyway? I will stick to my quarterly bills, paying the exact amount for the electricity and gas that I have used.
Hi ilona
I've been paying around £120 a month for my gas and electricity and I thought that was about average until I got this bill which is based on a reading from the start of December by the looks of it – I'm really pleased as it looks like the changes we've made around the house have really started to show in our bill.
I'm going to leave it where it is until Spring, then I'll provide a new reading and see how much of the credit is still there. I like the idea of paying quarterly so you just pay for exactly what you use but I find it easier to budget when I pay monthly.
I'm also surprised that my provider didn't let me know that I was so much in credit although I think the bill before was based on an estimate so they won't have known until this reading how much in credit I was. At least they've reduced my payment going forward though.
Thanks for your comment x
