Hi, my names Cass and I have a cook book addiction!

When I get a new cook book, I hide it on top of the fridge until the kids have gone to bed, then I pour myself a nice chilled glass of wine, turn the TV off, lock the door and settle down to spend some time getting to know the new addition to my little cook book family. I read it from cover to cover, turning each page slowly, while imagining myself in my own kitchen preparing and serving the delicious creations that I’m reading about.
Then, when I’m finished, I place it lovingly on my cook book shelf where it stays forevermore, gathering dust. You see, the problem is, as much as I love cook books, I rarely cook things from them as I don’t really like fancy or fussy food and I have very little technical ability in the kitchen. I also have the worlds fussiest eaters in my husband and Master Frugal….
What I like to make and what my family like to eat are the sort of home cooked meals that you remember from your childhood, things like macaroni cheese, spag bol and casseroley type dinners. I remember my mam making all sorts of delicious meals but unfortunately, she died before I really took an interest in cooking so she didn’t really have the chance to pass her recipes down to me, the way I want to do with Miss Frugal. So, if I can’t have my mam’s recipes, I thought you guys might be willing to share one of yours 😉
Thanks to the brilliant instructions I found on Violet Posy’s blog, I’ve managed to make a snazzy little badge:

So, seeing as I’ve made you all a lovely badge to use, do you think you could share one of your recipe’s with me 😉 If you do, leave a comment below to your post and I’ll add them all into one big post when there’s a few….
Thank you on behalf of me and my family (who are all bored with our regular meal plan)

I'm the same with cookbooks. I love looking at and owning the shiny celebrity chef ones but they rarely get used. I tell you which one I do actually use though – Fay's Family Food by Fay Ripley. The meals aren't fussy and it's got great ideas that adults, children and babies can share together.
Thanks very much for sharing – your recipes look great.
Thanks
I've never bought a cookbook in my life but regularly acquire them as gifts. Here is the link for the recipe section of my blog. I've managed to get the frugal part pretty much down. Midweek meals for four in our house cost around £30-40 per week. Check out my meal planners: http://omammy.blogspot.com/search/label/Recipes
Awww!! I like pretty new cookbooks! I'm slowly catching the bug! 🙂
Lol Step away from the cookbooks – it will cost you a fortune 😉
me, i like easy-peasy recipes like eggy bread, recipe: mix 3 or 4 eggs lightly with fork, soak bread in egg mixture, fry bread soaked in egg mixture, serve with salad cream. if you want a healthy option – use wholemeal bread 🙂
or protein salad: mix one can of chickpeas with a punnet of chopped tomatoes, one onion (chopped into smallish chunks), two cloves of garlic and a handful of chopped coriander. sprinkle with lemon juice and chill (literally and, if you like, metaphorically, yourself).
mmmm I remember eggy bread from when I was little. I used to love it x
Cook book always work for me. It's really helping me co create new menu for my family.
I can just never find something we will all like that's simple to make in mine – Maybe I need to buy some new cook books lol
How about our quesadilla recipe? It's not really what my mum made, but I make it and the kids love it. Nice and cheesey and very easy to adapt for those picky eaters who don't like peppers / sweetcorn / whatever 🙂 http://nurturestore.co.uk/recipes-for-all-the-fam…
They look brilliant – just what I need to encourage the kids to try new foods 😉
I have just got back from a Jamie Oliver party tonight and was very, very tempted with his receipe box thing, I too am addicted to cook books and have a whole cupboard full but tend to stick to the same trusted ones, after I have looked and drooled over all the pictures in my new ones! I have added 2 of my favourite receipes, and also wanted to say great idea for a blog as I am sooooooooo bored of our standard evening meals as well. http://superlittlemen.blogspot.com/2010/08/grandm…
They both look lovely – we are going to make the buns tomorrow I think.
Thanks x x
I love cook books too! I have loads but, like you rarely actually cook from them. I've bought a recipe file from Paperchase this week so I can create my own cook book with recipes I actually use. I've scheduled a post for Tuesday on Easy Lemon Curd so I'll edit it & link to you. It's simple and delicious! Nothing like my inept mother used to make though, sorry! She burns toast & we would have starved to death if my Dad hadn't learnt to cook! On Sunday she was re-heating potato hash in the microwave for my son and managed to melt the entire microwave proof dish. We have no idea how.
Your mum sounds very skillful in the kitchen lol.
Thanks so much for this and also for teaching me that Jonty Road is not actually Jonty Road lol
I'm a bit like that, I love the books, but I tend to make it up as I go along. So here's one I made earlier! Everyone in this house loves this meal and the good thing about it is you can make it as hot or mild as you like. And if a veggie you can replace the chicken with quorn.
Oops sorry, I didnt leave the link for the post/recipe in the above comment.. http://karennewhouse.blogspot.com/2010/04/takeawa…
That looks gorgeous – we'll definitely be trying that out x
http://englishmum.com/2009/03/08/sunday-lunch-roa… How about my Mum's rice pudding recipe (scroll down from the roast lamb). Best ever!! xxx
It's in the oven as we speak 😉
