Anyone who knows me knows how much of a cookbook freak I am, I have loads but hardly ever use them for recipes – I just like to look at the pictures and dream…. I have had the occasional go though and one particular memory of chilli and chorizo scallops springs to mind – I won’t go into it but it’s safe to say that we haven’t had scallops since 😉 I’ve also had more than one disaster with chocolate mousses and it’s probably best if I don’t even mention my previous risotto issues! Anyway, my various disasters haven’t put me off buying cookbooks and when I went shopping yesterday I heard the Primrose Bakery cupcake book calling out to me. I tried to ignore it but it was the last one on the shelf and just looking at the cover I knew we were going to be great friends lol so I hid it at the bottom of the trolley under the sensible stuff and managed to smuggle it through the checkout past Mr Frugal. Just so there’s no confusion, I didn’t smuggle it out without paying for it – I just didn’t want Mr Frugal to see it as he thinks I have way too many already.
I waited till the kids went to bed before I got it out of the bag as I love the first read of a cook book (I know, I’m a freak aren’t I?) and I wasn’t dissappointed – It’s so pretty and my mouth was watering just looking at the pictures. I was even inspired enough to make something from it this morning!!! And they actually look like they do in the picture!
Check me out – I am so a Domestic Goddess (at least until teatime).

I've got that book and it's BRILLIANT! Like you I am a terror for buying books and not using them, but this is a rare exception. (As opposed to the Jane Asher Baking Bible which is a huge disappointment… another story) But this one I love and like you feel myself turning into a Domestic Goddess as the fairy cakes rise….. Yep, me too – adore cookbooks. The more obscure, the better. Then I curse the fact I can never find the ingredients down the local Sainsbury's here in the provinces! I'm also with you on the house porn. Have mags coming out of my ears. Love the cupcakes, btw. Have just bought giant cupcake tin for youngest daughter's birthday cake next week. Will blog about it if it turns out ok!

Yummy, they look fab. I tried piping (albeit with a Thomas the Tank piping kit!) some cupcakes on Saturday for the first time in my adult life. They were good, but not as good as yours, icing too runny. I have millions of cookbooks and think of them like kitchen pornography. I love looking at them but they just get slavered over and never used. Until I bought Home Baking by Rachel Allen (she's the Irish one on Saturday Kitchen thingy, never seen it but I've been told). Have made LOADS of recipes from there as they fit exactly the way we live/eat etc. I always think if a cook book gives you one recipe that you do again, it is worth it but I've had about ten at least from Rachel's book. – HMx
I love sitting on the sofa and reading cook books, cooking magazines etc and marking what I think we will eat!! Not alone at all..BNMx

No you are not a freak, I love to read cook books. I am veggie so unless it's a veggie book half of the contents are useless but that doesn't stop me. I like baking and I really like the sound of this book, must keep an eye out for it.
