In an effort to be even more of a perfect Domestic Goddess, I have just made my own tomato sauce, from scratch, without any help, on my own!
It’s super easy and cheap!
I’m not good with technical terms but I just put some chopped onions and chopped garlic in a pan with a big glug of olive oil and cooked them until the onions were soft. I admit that I had some help with the stirring:
Next comes the tomato bit, but seeing as Master Frugal doesn’t like tomatoes he left this bit to his big sister. She added two tins of chopped tomatoes to the mixture and poured sprinkled in some basil:
Then we just left it to bubble away nicely for about five or ten minutes and Voila – a tasty tomato sauce to rival any that Dolmio can make 😉
We used tinned tomatoes with chilli for a bit of exta je na sais quoi (!) but you could use plain ones or any of the other variations you can buy these days. I suppose you could add allsorts to this, tuna, chicken, extra veg and anything else you could think of.
I’m going to pop this in the freezer for a chicken pasta bake one night this week!

cool website with great recipes. Tip for all. When making spag bog, chilli or shpherds pie grate 2 large carrots into the mixture, the kids cant see it and it goes a lot further
Wow! that’s a nice idea making your own tomato sauce from scratch. The finish product looks tasty. 🙂
Looks really simple. This is something that I can try out with my kids. Never to early to let them help around in the kitchen!
Magic meals from you. Thank you.. MMMM….
Hi
Thanks for visiting – I'll pop over to your soon x
That sounds nice – As it happens I'm out basil but have oregano so it will
save me buying basil as well x

Try putting some oregano in – even nicer than the basil version in my view (and a bit of chilli if you're that way inclined)

Sounds yummy, and easy!

That's a good idea -I'll try an Oxo cube next time I think. I'm going to make a big batch next weekend 😉
Thats very similar to my standad sauce I make which usual has a little something extra added, normally sweetcorn, carrot etc. I also normally pop an oxo cube in to give it a bit extra flavour. 😀
That's way more organised than me lol – I think I'll make a big batch of it next week if this one goes down well.
I have juststarted doign this too for bubbas baby dinners, except the kids love it to, I have it in the slow cooker at the moment with mushrooms, peppers and carrots and lentils in it, once all soft i am going to blitz it in the blender, so lil man cannot see the veg lol, will be havign spag bol tonight and making 15 baby dinners to freeze and freezing the rest of the sauce in batches, it tastes so much nicer than the jar stuff.
I love that name – Sunshine Sauce!
We always make our own sauce, we had a go at canning last years tomoto crop nad have just used the last jar – the boys call is sunshine sauce!
