A couple of years ago someone bought me an a very expensive looking Jo Malone candle in my favourite scent and I loved it. I actually loved it that much that I didn’t open it as I didn’t want to ‘waste’ it. 😉
The candle sat, still in it’s wrapper in my little ensuite bathroom where I eventually kind of just forgot it was there because it was like part of the furniture in there. Until a couple of weeks ago when I was giving the bathroom a mini makeover and I noticed the wrapper had gotten dusty so I actually got my damp microfibre cloth and dusted the box!!!
Mid way through this dusting, I realised how silly it was that I’d never even smelt the candle because I didn’t just want to waste it by burning it for no reason at all. I decided to go wild and open the box and you know what, the candle barely smelt of anything. Â It had been sat there for that long looking pretty and gathering dust that it’s beautiful scent had all but gone!

When I think about it, I have other things that I just use for ‘best’ so my ‘couple of months into the year’ resolution is going to be to start using my good stuff more.
Miss Frugal is the same with her Lush bath bomb collection – she spends ages choosing herself a new one to treat herself to with her pocketmoney and then gets it home and puts it into her bath bomb box where it will stay until she can bring herself to use it. She still has ones in there from Christmas 2015 so they’ll be well past their best by now but she won’t use them because she’s quite happy just to know she has them in her collection. Â I’ve tried to persuade her to take a leaf out of my book and start using them but she’s having none of it!
What about you, what do you have that you save for best?

I a miss the same with bath bombs. I love using them but I also like to hold onto them, just in case. In case of what I'm not sure. 🙂
Ah. I still have a candle bought for me when my elder daughter was born. In 2006….. It does still smell of vanilla though lol. Usually I don't keep stuff for best having read an article like this years ago. So my hubby and I decided, for instance, that we would use our wedding crockery every day and still are, 23 years later.
This is me. I can't wait to have something, then can't bring myself to use / wear it! It's crazy. Thank you for the reminder. Kaz 🙂
When all our old crockery was chipped/broken, we started using the wedding stuff that was just sat there for very rare special occassions. We chose it because we liked it, and now we get to use it everyday, and have a lot more cupboard space not having 2 sets!
I do similar things, I tend to buy things like candles that look nice and then never use them!
I'm terrible, I just use up everything as soon as I get it! My husband is a bit more reluctant, though x
This is very true I'm exactly the same with candles so I'm going to go and light my Jo Malone candle I've been "saving " before the scent goes.
I use our (wedding gift) crockery nearly everyday…. a couple of years ago I broke a saucer from the set, but I don't mind because I would rather break something from using it, than break it from just dusting it ! I think my wine glasses are actually made up of 3 different styles- it doesn't worry me !
