Oh, that's so moving. Wonderful to see from the point of view of someone suffering though, we so often hear from their families and not so much from the actual sufferers.
I am so sorry that you lost him, he was obviously a wonderful person. I'm sure he would be very happy that people were being touched by that piece.

We ended up with ham and split pea soup and sliced gammon with baby potatoes ;-) I used the last bits in a quiche.

I tend to use ham shank or gammon joints in a pea & ham soup.

I soak the ham overnight to remove the worst of the salt, (soak the dried peas seperately), put the meat in the slow cooker. As soon as I get home from work I take the meat out of the slow cooker, skim the fat, dump in the pre soaked peas & leave to cook for a couple of hours.

I know what you mean - I've been really good recently, following in your footsteps so to speak, and all of our meals have been mde up from what was in the store cupboard - however I love the fajitas kits and we are having that tonight - the chicken was £2, the sachet (Asda's own sachet instead of the full kit) was 54p, the creme freche (I don't like sour cream) was 74p and the peppers

When I say "it's delicious sprinkled with chopped onion", I mean the gammon, green beans and potatoes combo. I usually cook all three together in the slow cooker but it's a bit late for you to do that!
