Last week we were sent a LeapPad Explorer to review ahead of the product launch yesterday and it’s been a huge success.
What is a LeapPad Explorer?
The LeapPad Explorer is the world’s first tablet device, specifically designed for children aged four to nine years old. Built just like an iPad, but tailored specifically for children, the LeapPad Explorer encompasses the next generation of learning, digital reading and personal creativity. The revolutionary device comes complete with a collection of innovative tools including a built in 2mega pixel camera and video recorder, which is designed to feed children’s creativity and help develop key learning skills. It also has a library of over 100 educational games and interactive e-books, offering children endless ways to play.
What did we think?
I’ve never known anything that can keep Master Frugal quiet and interested for so long. Seriously, he played on it practically non stop for the first day we had it and the novelty hasn’t worn off like it does on a lot of toys as there’s such a lot you can do with the Explorer. As well as the camera, there are e books to read, games to play, an art studio and an ‘All about Me’ section and I’m pleased to see that they all encourage learning. He particularly likes the Pet Pad app where he looks after a vitual pet while learning to write different letters which is something that he needs to work on so it’s ideal for him.
I’ve had a look at the website where you can purchase and download new apps for it and I think they’re actually quite reasonably priced for the amount of play that you’ll get out of each one – starting at £3.50. I’d much rather he was playing on this than a games console and this is one of those toys that if I’d seen him playing with it at a friends house, I would have been happy to pay the £79.99 that the LeapPad explorer retails at.
Disclosure – We were given the LeapPad explorer for the purposes of this review.

Wonderful review. And thanks for the disclosure. Definitely don't mind that it was given to you, but when people try to hide it, it just makes you wonder.
Great post about the leapPad. In fact, I think you have a great site! Great idea, and it's very entertaining. keep up the good work!

I was very disappointed in this toy for my 6 year old. The only apps available are aimed at pre school kids and there are very few of these anyway. There do appear to be leapster games which are compatible but then you pay leapster prices for these and I am reticent to do this as my child has not spent more than 2 hours on this toy in the last three months, much of which was school holiday.
I think that the Leappad Explorer is a great toy for kids, not only is it lots of fun but it is educational and has lots of functions and has a 5 inch screen. I think that it will be very popular for christmas this year.
