If I asked you to choose one cherished object from your house and write about it, do you think you could? Do you think you could choose just one thing? No, me neither! When I read that the prompt was for this weeks Friday Club was ‘ a cherished object in your home’, I knew I was going to have problems narrowing it down and I spent last night wandering round the house with the camera round my neck. Thanks for that Ella
Only joking – it’s a great idea for a theme and I actually had a lovely night with Miss Frugal talking about our special things, she loves to hear the story behind everything and even together we couldn’t choose just one thing…. So, we decided to share lots of our special things with you….
These are the top two shelves of our special things cabinet (yes, that’s what we call it). The top shelf is mostly our wedding day memories, the teddies on the cake stand sat on top of my wedding cake and the corks are from the first bottles of champagne opened at my little reception. The Anvil was given to us by the minister who married us at Gretna Green and the other things are bits and bobs that we were given on the day.
The next shelf is a bit more chaotic, there’s the infamous box at the front, the shark that Mr Frugal painted when we went to the local pottery (the others are on the kitchen windowsill), the little princess caketopper from the castle cake I made Miss Frugal , an engraved Loveheart from Mr Frugal and lots of other random special things. The flower tucked behind the bear’s ear is one that my mam gave me. It was originally in a vase that said Special Daughter but the vase got smashed a while back so now I just have the flower.
You know that saying – ‘See a penny, pick it up and all day long you’ll have good luck’? Well we keep all of the pennies that we find in a wine glass on the kitchen windowsill. I love it and even though I’m not very superstitious, I have given it a quick shake a few times when I’ve felt the need for some extra luck.

This ornament lives on our living room windowsill, even though it’s not perfect. I threw it in the bin after a big argument with Mr Frugal years ago when we were going through a bit of a rough time and a little bit of the hands smashed off. Mr Frugal has offered loads of time to buy me a new one as I loved the symbolism of the family unit when he bought it for me originally, the idea that everyone in the family is connected and that they are all one but I always say no. It means more to me now because it reminds me that family life isn’t always perfect and that you need to work at it.
I genuinely could have gone on as I took loads more pictures but Master Frugal is off school sick today so I’d better go and entertain him….

I love to see other peoples special things too, I think that's why I've loved this weeks Friday Club theme. It amazes me how things you might think are insignificant can mean so much to someone else x
I love that you didn't mend or replace the statue
Thank you, it makes me happy to see it everytime I look at it

Oh, that last one brought a lump to my throat. I love why you decided to keep it
Children are so curious, aren't they? Mine will listen for hours to stories behind some of our favourite things and I love that they are interested about things like that.

Lucky you with all those special things. We have so much clutter but I honestly can't think of anything I'd go back into a burning house for, if the kids and dogs were already out. I love the ornament.
I know what you mean in a way, we have lots of special things but the most important things are the kids and everything else is replaceable
Cute Blog! I’m a new follower Happy Friday!! I would love for you to stop and take a look at my blog as well! Thanks! http://heavenlysavings.blogspot.com

Someone taught me a second line to "See a penny, pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck", and that was "Give the penny to a friend, then your luck will never end", which I think is lovely.
I currently have a lucky (and mucky) penny in the door of my car, because I was on my own when I found it, but I think the car counts as a friend.
Aw I like that next bit, must try and remember it….. The car door is as goos as any place to store your pennies lol
