I’ve really enjoyed my week off work cooking meals that I wouldn’t normally cook as part of my meal plan challenge. On the menu last night was chicken quesadillas:
If you ask any of my family, they will say that I lovingly prepared the quesadillas with my own hands but I actually bought an Old el Paso Quesadilla kit from Tescos and made it while they were all playing on the wii. The kit came with the corn tortillas, the spice mix and tomato salsa, I just bought the chicken, cheese and sour cream.
The instructions on the pack were really simple to follow and they were absolutely gorgeous….
….But, there’s always a but isn’t there, I have just figured out that by the time I bought the quesadilla kit, the chicken, cheese and the sour cream, it wasn’t a frugal meal by any means.
So although the meal itself was gorgeous and is definitely one to add to the meal plan, I am going to need to find a cheaper way to make it.

I wish I could make them as yummy as the kit was but I don't think they'd be quite the same.
Quesadillas with pumpkin seeds sounds nice, both kids love pumpkin seeds x
Those kits call really get you! You definitely pay for the convenience. (I'm sure it was delicious however)
its amazing how expensive it works out when you have to buy all the stuff, isn't it?
we don't buy the kits anymore, just the wraps. I have a recipe for quesadillas with pumpkin seeds and no meat which might be a bit more frugal.
I know what you mean – I've been really good recently, following in your footsteps so to speak, and all of our meals have been mde up from what was in the store cupboard – however I love the fajitas kits and we are having that tonight – the chicken was £2, the sachet (Asda's own sachet instead of the full kit) was 54p, the creme freche (I don't like sour cream) was 74p and the peppers were £1 – not a very frugal meal by any means but very yummy!
All those little extras really add up, don't they?
