This is a Guarenteed Diet Buster….

I picked up one of those free Asda magazines up yesterday and there’s a recipe in it for chocolate brownies. I’ve never had much success making brownies but in the name of entertaining the children I am happy to try again ;-)

Chocolate Brownies
225g butter
100g cocoa powder
4 large eggs
450g sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
150g self raising flour
1 teaspoon crushed dried chillies (controversial or what!)

Preheat the oven to 180c /160c for a fan assisted oven / gas mark 4

Grease a 4cm deep rectangular tin that’s about 28cm x 19cm – I don’t have one so I used two deep circular sandwich tins.

Melt the butter in a pan (or the microwave if you like to cut corners – like me lol) and then stir in the cocoa.  Set aside for 10 minutes while you make the rest of the recipe.  TOP TIP – Do not dip your fingers in the bowl at this point, it is not as yummy as it looks yet!

Whisk the eggs, sugar and vanilla together until they are pale and foamy (or until your arm starts to hurt).

Stir in the cocoa mixture, the flour and the chillies, I only had chilli powder so I used that.

Pour into your baking tin / tins and bake for 35 minutes or until the top is firm and the inside is squidgy.

While the cake is cooking don’t forget the obligatory licking out of the bowl, the best bit of baking a cake.

When the cake is cooked, let it cool for 10 minutes and turn out.

When it’s cool, cut into squares or any other shape you want and dust with icing sugar….  Then eat and enjoy.

OMG We have just had a slice of our brownie cake and it is absolutely gorgeous, I feel that I can call myself a real Domestic Goddess now.  At least until my next kitchen escapade lol
