AKA – Them ones that MacDonalds make
Don’t you just love kids and their honesty? I told them that we were having pancakes for breakfast this morning and they had the cheek to say they would rather go to MacDonalds! Apparently, MacDonalds pancakes are much nicer than mine.
Never one to be outdone, I decided that I was going to make MacDonald’s stlye pancakes better than even MacDonalds could make them so I sent them off to play on the Wii and turned to my trusty cookbook collection for some inspiration. After all, I have about a million so I knew one of them would have a recipe in it that would do….
Three hundred recipes later,
Nigella came up trumps and I found a recipe that looked like it would compete with MacDonalds.
American Style Pancakes
30g (2 tablespoons) butter
225g plain flour
2 heaped teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon sugar
pinch of salt
300 ml milk
2 eggs
- Melt the butter and leave it to one side to cool slightly.
- Mix all of the dry ingredients together.
- Beat the eggs, mill and melted butter together and pour it into the mixture.
- Mix it together until there are no lumps in the mixture.
- Heat some butter into a frying pan and spoon a dollop of the mixture into the hot pan.
- When its done underneath turn it over and cook the other side.
- Serve to children and await their response as to whether your verions beats MacDonalds.
The Verdicts – ‘Way better than MacDonalds’ and ‘Awesome’

Thanks for sharing the recipe. Throw in a bunch of fresh fruits instead of using syrup and you've just made a healthier breakfast for your kids.

Hey Great Receipe. I just made the pancakes this morning and they turned out great and best of all my kids loved them!
It might not be as pretty, but this is way better than those heavily processed microwaved pancakes.
I'd add a dash of Vanilla in the recipe for that flavor kick and maybe a pound or two of bacon.

They do look awesome Magic Mummy. I'll have to try that recipe.
I remember being served up with an amazing blueberry pancake and whipped cream breakfast when we were on holiday in San Francisco in the early 80's. It was the best breakfast I ever ate! If only they did brekkies like that here in the UK!
Looks like the cake, Nigella, is delicious. I never taste that kind of food so I'm willing to learn how to cook for it. I love this way, your post details.
I'm originally from Wales UK but moved to Canada in 98. Nobody here makes pancakes the right way, there more like fluffy potato cake.
But they do make something called a Beaver Tail that's very nice, more like a deep fried pancake.

looney tunes baby…
My blog about looney tunes baby…
IMHO…most killer Honey Lemonade Recipe: 1/2 gallon warm water, 1/2 cup honey, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice. Just mix it all with your hands (their warmth will disolve the honey and sugar) and pour mixture into a gallon container filled 3/4 with ice. You can even add a slice of fresh ginger for a little extra asian kick.
I think I am going to keep some of this mix made up as the kids are asking for them again this weekend so I can see its going to be a regular thing….
I'm glad you enjoyed the tortillas
The Nigella ones are lovely – I keep some mix ready made up!
Thanks for the tortilla recipe – I mentioned you in my blog today
